Plantation Hale

Posted May 23, 2015
Pros: Very quiet, laid back and friendly.
Cons: Appliances are antiquated and the air conditioning is rudimentary.
Location: Wailua Golf course is nearby. This is an excellent municipal course. The restaurant in the resort across the street is outstanding.
Across the street is an excellent restaurant, perhaps the best on Kauai. The staff is VERY friendly and accommodating. I made a mistake in the booking dates which they overlooked and assisted us in getting an extra night at a very reasonable price.

Like Your Own Apartment

Posted May 19, 2015
The hotel was close to the beach and in a central location on Kauai. There are many grocery stores nearby. Staff was friendly and excellent about servicing. The suite itself is the size of an apartment with all the amenities of an apartment included (ie kitchen, laundry room on site, 3 pools, etc.). I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Basic Hotel

Posted May 9, 2015
Pros: Close to beach
Cons: Housekeeping should actually clean the rooms and dishes and counter
Location: It is near the airport and many grocdry stores and pharmacies. And the beach is across the street
Our stay was ok, 11 nights....however, the room (bathroom, kitchen, dishes, microwave, floor...) were not cleaned properly....I had to rewash the dishes and the microwave was dirty and there were items on the floor that remained for three days, obviously not swept up. So minimum cleaning....we signed up for late checkout (5:00) and they forgot to activate our card accordingly and it took two tries to do so. Staff were nice and friendly but we will not be staying at this hotel again.

Great Hotel and friendly team

Posted May 5, 2015
Location: East side of the Island - we figured that was good, as you can go north and south for day trips and split the attractions a bit.
We arrived in the middle of the night. The security was informed and able to get us into our room. Next morning the desk called and was ready with a info package to explore the Island. The Team members were friendly and everything was quiet and clean. There are 3 pools available (incl. hot tub) and BBQs for use. Furthermore the facility is close to the beach (not so good for swimming but amazing for pictures of nice waves). Restaurants and market square can be reached in Walking distance.

Simple, but friendly and great value

Posted Apr 21, 2015
Pros: friendly staff, low-key feel, clean and great value. A similar size suite at a national brand in the area was almost 2x more expensive.
Cons: The quality of the bed and pillows: Bed was OK but a little ' bouncy', and pillows are basic synthetic fill, not down that you get at premium hotels.
Location: Easy breakfast at Eggberts restaurant just around the corner... bring cash (they don't take credit card). Beach is 2 min walk from room.
+ Friendly staff, has air conditioner in room, clean and well maintained for age, free crib for babies - basic, non luxury, older construction (but what can you expect for the price), "diversity" of residents (given lower cost, you get a few younger residents that might be more of the party crowd - we didn't have any noise problems but I imagine it happens sometimes) Bathroom was recently renovated, and entire room was clean and well maintained. Air conditioning is an interesting design -- it's a single wall mount AC unit that you find in older hotels that weren't designed for central air. In order to have AC cool both the bedroom and the living room with just a single unit, the cold air output from the AC goes into a small cabinet that splits it approximately half of the cold air goes into living room, and half goes to a vent into the bedroom. Downside for this is if folks want different temperature in the 2 different rooms you have to get creative and block one of the vents. The good thing about it is that AC noise is much lower in the bedroom than you would find if there was a wall mounted AC unit in the bedroom. All factors considered, I think this is a pretty smart design.

Close to everything a vacationer would need.

Posted Apr 20, 2015
Pros: Easy to find, great staff, beautifully landscaped. The housekeepers were very insightful and knowledgeable about the island.
Location: Plantation Hale is centrally located making it easy to everything. The farmers market is very close by and so is Long's Drugs.
Had a great time at the Plantation Hale. The staff there was top notch! It was the first time I stayed there and looking forward to my return trip.

Affordable and Spacious

Posted Apr 14, 2015
Pros: Ample Space
Cons: Newer furniture and removing popcorn ceiling.
Location: There are plenty of places to eat and walking distance to the beach.
I had no issues staying in Plantation Hale Suites. The place was affordable and met our needs. We only really needed the place for showering and sleeping after a long day. After all, we were in Kauai and why would we want to stay inside when there are so many things to do around the island (i.e. hiking, finding isolated beaches, snorkelling, surfing). With that said, if you are looking for a luxurious place to stay in and expecting a beautiful brand new resort, then this isn't the place for you. Expect to pay a lot more for those. If I was on a honeymoon, I would pay that extra money.

Nothing fancy, but quiet and relaxing.

Posted Apr 10, 2015
We booked two suites; one for my husband and I, the other for our teenagers. The negatives- pools are boring for kids, highway is loud if you are in back of complex, no dishwasher, laundry is coin, not many extras. Positives- super quiet residents/guests, close to many amenities, beach views and access across a field, staff very friendly and accommodating, movies and books to borrow. Kitchen pretty well stocked. Upgrades is room are nice. Bed comfy. A/C loud but works well.

Good location, but needs an overhaul

Posted Apr 1, 2015
Pros: The location was perfect - midway between north and south, along the east coast. It's close to shopping and a number of restaurants.
Cons: The place was just getting a lick of paint when we left - it could use it. A gentle facelift, and some attention to minor issues would go a long way.
Location: Very close to Wailua Golf Course (municipal), Five mins to Safeway, Starbucks, and several good restaurants. Good cocktail lounge across the street.
Arrived very late at night, and thankfully staff remained on hand to direct us to the right unit, so it started out well. Unfortunately, the room was a disappointment. Moldy smell in the bedroom required airing out the room every day. Shower stall had moldy, peeling caulking. Rest of unit (kitchenette, living space, lanai) was ok - about what we expected for the price: rather spartan, but acceptable. Pool area was clean and enjoyable, but the outdoor BBQs were a big disappointment. It's too bad that they invested serious cash into excellent Weber equipment, but haven't sunk any time into cleaning/maintaining them. The first BBQ we tried was so encrusted in sludge that only one of the three burners would ignite. We had to try a second BBQ, also not cleaned in ages, but which did actually work. Overall, staff were OK - pleasant and helpful, but not outstanding. It's a 3-4 minute walk to a lovely beach, but not one suitable for swimming - as there's no lifeguard and serious rip tides. In fact, a man drowned there during our stay. Location is great though. Only 15 minutes to Lihue (airport), 5 mins by car to grocery shopping and restaurants. The Plantation Hale is only 30 mins from the lush tropical climes at the north end of the island, while 30 mins in the other direction gets you to the almost desert-like areas of the south and southwest. If you like exploring, it's a great starting point. If you plan to spend plenty of time in/near your room, it's not the place for you.
