Inexpensive stayPosted Feb 24, 2014
There was a local expedia expert on site and she was amazing! She was very knowledgable about the local island activities as well as the tourist attractions and she had free gifts to offer and who doesn't like free. Not a five star location but worth every penny with a beautiful view. Would stay again and again!!!

Disappointing! Would not recommend!Posted Feb 23, 2014
Pros: pool and bbq area was nice have, as we had no view or close proximatey to ocean
Cons: Cleanliness/freshness - housekeeping!
Location: The island is small, so it was not difficult to see/do what you wanted to do from this location.
As we walked into our suite - which we were told was renovated - we were met with an overwhelming musty smell - not a good first impression. Further investigation showed no improvement. The bathroom - specifically the toilet was soiled, as was the the bathtub/shower; the kitchen stove, range hood, fridge and cupboards - all dirty/soiled. We called the front desk to get some cleaning supplies, and they sent in housekeeping -- we purchased disinfectant cleaning towels the next day to clean it ourselves. Very disappointed in cleanliness, and never felt at ease/comfortable. Veranda/deck area - very noisy with air conditioner operation. Major highway noise.

Good for the budget traveler.Posted Feb 19, 2014
Pros: Location and sense of safety to go for walks. Nearby grocery, restaurants, shopping and other attractions. It's quiet as well.
Cons: If this property would be completely updated, it would be a great place to stay at. Even the renovated rooms were mostly surface renos.
Location: Great central location to all attractions and easy to get to places from here.
We had to switch rooms while we were there because of the poor conditions of the first room we had. Please know that there are renovated rooms and non-renovated rooms. I have no problem with out-dated rooms - we have stayed at out-dated hotels before. I do have a problem with cleanliness. The first room we had had an awful stench, the stove top was filthy and the white fridge was so filthy, the handles were brownish-black. The dish rack had mold on it. I asked for housekeeping to come, but instead, they offered to move us into a renovated room at no extra charge. The renovated room was cleaner. But the bottom line is that this property is very old and it shows. The staff were great to deal with though when we had to call them. Its location is great, in Kapaa, and in Aleka Loop, which is a quiet side street where you can take walks with kids and the beach is very nearby. So if you don't mind a super old property and can appreciate everything else surrounding the property, stay here. By the way, none of the units have dishwashers.

Stay at Plantation Hale Suites.Posted Feb 5, 2014
Pros: Staff was extremely nice, and helpful.
Cons: Rooms are somewhat dated, and could use remodeling to new standards, but clean and affordable. We didn't stay in room much.
Location: Good ocean beach especially with whales visible during morning hours. Beach is normally quiet and peaceful.
The hotel was in walking distance to two major grocery stores, and numerous restaurants in Kapaa. About 1/2 block from ocean beach, and many other hotels in area. Parking was available on site, with spaces wide enough to park easily.

quickly planned holiday, good results.Posted Feb 2, 2014
Pros: The hotel is easy to find, well laid out and clean. Excellent staff in all areas. The rooms were large enough and pleasant.
Cons: Finish and upgrade renos. Poor shower heads, poor kitchen knives, pots, stove. Liv. room furniture is very uncomfortable if your are tall or heavy.
Location: General shopping is close. Very limited entertainment. Dangerous ocean swimming here. Walking by the highway is hazardous.
This holiday was planned in one day shortly before we left. In our price range there was little available to choose from. We needed a kitchenette for my diet requirements so there was not much to choose from. This is an older complex but very well maintained and staff that will do there best to meet your requirements. For the cost this was a good choice, it had all required elements and met our needs well. Some things could need improved. If you are tall or heavy this furniture is uncomfortable and the bathrooms need upgrading but they work fine. The swimming pool is not heated and is cold, in January we could not use it. The garden views are noisy with traffic noise. An upper floor ocean view will give the most pleasant experience. For ocean admirers the beach is a short walk away but not for ocean play. You must drive to swimming beaches but there are areas down the beach a block or so that kids can be safe for water play. On the east side of the park across the street there is a reef at the beach about 20 feet off shore. This provides a trough that is safe for child play, if kids are closely supervised. There are very few things to do close by other than shop. The stores close by will meet your needs, ie, groceries. There are several dinning choices that are good. Walking by the highway can be hazardous and local walking trails are very limited. We always felt safe here and any out door activity we did was without hassle.

Nice hotel in the middle of everythingPosted Jan 28, 2014
Cons: The hot tub did run quite warm and the pool was a bit chilly for swimming.
We found this place to be excellent for our needs. The balcony or lanai looked out over a field and to the ocean beyond that. It has a well stocked little kitchen and the whole place felt modern and up to date. The location was great for travel either south or north and is located close to the airport. The hotel provided beach towels, movies, Wi-Fi, cable (with one TV in bedroom and one in living room area), Expedia concierge services on location, and tea/coffee every morning. There was an additional $12 a day charged that covered all of the above and more but it was worth it. The site has 3 pools each with a hot tub.

Pros: It is less expensive but not by much. For just a little more per night we got a 2bdrm,3 bath suite at Outrigger half mile down the street.
Cons: Replace the carpets, tile and furniture and perhaps the cleaning staff who don't seem to know how to do a thorough job!
Location: The shops around are showing their age and many have shut their doors. There are several nice beaches, and Kauai is a beautiful island to explore!
We took an unplanned trip to Kauai. On short notice this was the only place I could find a vacancy for our first few days there. The place is old and shows it. I could have lived with that but when we got to our room and saw how dirty it was, I was horrified! There is years worth of ground in dirt in the carpets. The tile floor was dirty with oily something that probably could be cleaned up if someone had tried. The bathroom was not clean, and the furniture as well has grime on it from years of use. There was an odor to the room and it was damp as well. As soon as we were able to get a room somewhere else, we checked out. The hotel was reluctant to give us a refund on the nights we cancelled, but the girl from Expedia pushed them on the issue and was eventually able to get them to agree to refund our money for the night we did not stay there.

DO NOT STAY HERE--VERY DIRTY & UNKEPTPosted Jan 15, 2014
Pros: The location.
Cons: The cleanlieness of the rooms and the fact they wouldn't refund our money even though we didn't stay here.
Location: Nice location in Kapaa.
First room issued had 1 bed even though the reservation was for 5 people. Went to office and was switched to a new room that would accomodate us. Walked in this room and it had feces on the outside of the toilet and hair on the floor. Obviously it was not cleaned with any care. Went back to the office and was issued a third room and it had stained towels with hair shavings on it and the room smelled like mold. From that point we turned in the key and went down the street to the Courtyard and finally got a decent room. I tried to get a refund and Plantation Hale said NO and Expedia only gave us a minimal credit for our troubles. I guess that's better than nothing but I'm still not pleased.
