“Great experience!”

We booked on expedia, and we were not sure what to expect. We got to princeville and were pleasantly shocked. We were not at a hotel, but our own private two bedroom condo. It was stocked with everything we might need, and the people couldnt have been more helpful. It was relaxing, private and easy. I can't wait to go back to Princeville. I would stay here again, without hesitation!

“Nice place at a great price”

The Princeville Oceanfront villas were very nice. Unit was clean and nicely appointed. The location was perfect, right on cliff overlooking the ocean. Walk down to beach was a little difficult. Other beacches nearby were nicer. I saw monk seal on beach though so it was worth it. Very close to Makai Golf Course and shopping center. There was no housekeeping for the 4 days i stayed there but i really did not mind. Price was great. It was not plush. But i would stay there again. Also stayed in Poipu. That condo cost alot more but was more modern and much nicer. better furniture and falt screen TVs. nice stereo, granite counter tops. (Castle Beach Bungalows)

“Will Go Back”

Very quite, right on the 15th fairway. Unit was a little dated, but it was clean, comfortable and had every thing we needed.

“Poorly equipped and uncomfortable futon, but great view.”

The location of this property on the cliffs overlooking the ocean and lighthouse is absolutely spectacular. My kids liked playing on the grass right outside the unit. Parents with little kids might not like the sheer drop off with no fence. One queen bed was fine but the sleeping arrangements for the "3rd and 4th" sleepers in this unit was unacceptable. It was a futon sofa that was narrow, lumpy and hard. It would hardly have slept two adults. My 14 year old son was not impressed. The kitchen was very poorly equipped. The non-stick pans stuck and there was barely a full complement of silverware. They made a big deal that they would provide 2, and only 2 rolls of toilet paper! I don't want to have to think about TP on vacation! The entire unit needs a facelift and was not what I expected to see in fancy Princeville. We finally left for a much nicer place in Poipu for the last two nights. I was happy to spend the extra money to get a nicer, cleaner unit. I would like to stress that all units may not be the same (this is E4 I'm talking about) and if you want to sit and gaze at the view or watch for whales, this really was a beautiful location.

Area recommendations
Princeville is a nice spot, but if you are coming to Kauai with kids, it's better to stay in Poipu or Lihue since most of the activities start from that side of the island. Also the weather in winter is better down there. It often rains on the North Shore.
Getting around
Rental cars can be very difficult to come by at certain times on the islands. It was a logistical pain, but we rented a UHaul pick up truck for a few days until a rental car became available. My kids thought driving around in a pick up was cool. It was hard to park, but it fit the bill.
Family-friendly activities
In Kauai we paddled up the Wailua River in kayaks. We took a guided tour and all of the tours looked to be about as good as another. My kids, 14 and 11 loved it. We paddled for about 2 miles, moored our kayaks, and then hiked for about a mile to a swimming hole and waterfall. The photo ops there were great. The kids absolutely loved playing in the crystal clear water. My 14 year old son took his own kayak and did great. My 11 year old daughter wasn't much help in our double kayak, but it didn't matter. Other even younger kids and grandparents came along and they all did fine. Our guide pointed out the foundations of ancient Hawaiian homes and taro fields. Very educational and interesting.

“Not Impressed”

We were put up in Sealodge, this is an old condo project of privately owned units with less than desirable maintenance. Windows wouldn't open, light bulbs were burned out and pillows were hard rubber and smelled of mildew. The leasing agent took care of these problems the next day. The Views were great, the condo is on the cliff overlooking the ocean but that doesn't overcome the general deterioration due to AGE and lack of maintenance. NO A/C is unacceptable in this climate!!!

“Perfect location”

Princeville is a wonderful area. Princeville Oceaanfront villas are not oceanfront, but very close to all beaches in the Hanalei and Princeville area. Very comfortable house, two bedrooms and two bathrooms, with a patio.

Traveler's tip
If you have a chance, go to Princeville Ranch and book a Zip and Dip tour: it is a wonderful half a day activity, with adventurous ziplines, easy hiking and swimming in a natural ppol with waterfalls. Great fun, lush vegetation, fantastic sightseeing.

“Great Location, Shop locally”

The company contracts with individual owners and you may not get the same unit I did but it was just as promised. It was clean and came with all the things we needed for a full kitchen and bathroom. The bed was great and the condo was very clean. We loved our stay and would recommend you go to the store to cook at home and save money.

“Beautiful Views,Great location”

Condo was located overlooking the Ocean and had great Views. There was a trail from the villas down to a private little beach which was very nice. The Condo was a little outdated and was suppose to have a King size bed,but only had a Queen size bed. There was only one wine glass and should had at least two.Would not go back to these Villas on Vacation.

Traveler's tip
Shop for wines, suntan lotion and smaller items at The ABC store vs the Food stores. So much cheaper.Try the Mai tias at Kiokas at Poipu, best on the Island.
