Tucked-away Baltic gemPosted May 28, 2014
Pros: All the above plus the friendliness and professionalism of the Reception staff
Location: Only had a one-night stopover here en route to Helsinki, so had little time for sightseeing. Location was only a short walk from the Old Town.
Delighted to find this gem of a hotel at such a reasonable price. Am no expert on Baltic States hotels but reckon this establishment must rank as the best value for money one can find. Sited unobtrusively in a quiet side street, but minutes only from the Old Town, everything about Best Western Santakos hotel surpassed expectations for a mid-range hotel. An apparent conversion from a previous life as a warehouse, refurbishment has been carried out perfectly in the style of an earlier period, in both the bedrooms and public spaces. Our bedroom was comfortable and charming with all the facilities that one might hope for in this range of hotel. The room and linens were spotless and the air conditioning worked perfectly during a period of unseasonally hot weather. There was a complete absence of traffic noise or indeed any other disturances, and due to the location would imagine that this would be the norm. Free car-parking on site was an added bonus as was a good quality buffet breakfast.

I have stayed in this hotel several times on business trips and would thoroughly recommend it. The location on the edge of the old town is also excellent.

Enjoyable stayPosted Jul 10, 2013
Location: Location good for both new and Old Town.
Comfortable stay in a quality hotel but would have liked to have better choice of tv channels including English. Swimming pool disappointing with no changing facilities.

Lovely hotel, excellent stayPosted Feb 15, 2012
A wonderful hotel - from the outside it doesn't look special, but the rooms are of a very high standard. The buffet breakfast has a great choice and the coffee is amazing. The staff are very friendly, helpful and accomodating. I found the service to be excellent. I would definitely stay there again. If you are looking to exchange your currency into Litas (Lithuanian currency) they will do this at the hotel, but they only change small denominations and the money isn't always available. I would recommend that you get your currency at the airport or before you travel to avoid disappointment.

Chain Hotel Lacking in Some BasicsPosted Jun 4, 2011 on Hotels.com
This hotel may look swanky but is lacking in some basic areas. the room was quite small and there were no tea/coffee facilities, although room service was available. The standard room does however have air conditioning (although not advertised on-line, and the remote control was removed from the room, but you could manually activate this by standing on a chair and pressing the button on the unit). Didn't use pool or spa - only available from 7 - 10 am and required booking 2 hrs in advance. It was a reasonable price but the breakfast was quite poor for a 4 star hotel - watered down orange juice, nasty coffee and no vegetarian hot options (the scrambled egg had ham in). The location was however very good - just off the main shopping street and close to old town. I guess it is a standard chain hotel, catering more to business, but is a good base for a weekend in Kaunas. The bus to the airport also stops not far away - saving a walk to the station. Stayed May 2011, traveled as a couple

Beautiful hotel in the centre of KaunasPosted May 12, 2011 on Hotels.com
The hotel is really charming and all the rooms have been done to a highly exceptional standard. My only negative comment would be the beds - the mattresses dip in the middle. Not sure if they need a firmer base, turning or replacing. For the centre of Kaunas you could not ask for a better location.
