Staff need to learn about customer service!Posted Sep 6, 2014
Pros: Nice outlook over the mountains and walking distance to the shops on the spit.
Cons: Better customer service and housekeeping doing the job they are paid for.
Location: Bear viewing
I stayed for 4 nights here, when I arrived the staff were not friendly. Of the 4 nights I only requested that the room be cleaned and made up 1 day. They gave me fresh towels and emptied the bin but didn't make the bed. I wasn't expecting clean sheets just a made bed. When I asked at reception about why it wasn't made only to be told that I must be mistaken and it was made! Are they kidding I have a photo of it. They were not at all interested and I had clearly interrupted them talking. Very disappointing!! I will be returning to Homer for more bear viewing in the future but will not stay here again.

Great spot on the beachPosted Aug 25, 2014
Pros: Location, views, food, cleanliness, friendly peeps.
Cons: Would like to have available a map of rooms available. To help pick the "best" view, or balcony to my taste.
Location: Bear Creek Winery offer wine tasting and bottles for purchase. Homer Brewing Company offers sampler beers and beer for purchase. Bay tours avail. Fish
Excellent resort, great views of the bay looking across to glacier capped mountains. We were lucky to watch Orca whales jumping, as well as a hump back whale. The restaurant offered Great food at a comparable price to any other spot in Alaska.

Can't beat the view!Posted Aug 14, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location!
Cons: I mean...I like central air, but other than that...
Location: Funky little Alaska beach town. Great fishing. Eat at Capt. Pattie's and the Duncan House Diner - also Chart Room at Lands End Resort.
Stayed at Lands End for three nights in late July/early August. The view is incredible - resort really is at "lands end" on the Homer Spit. Within walking distance of all the restaurants and shops and the Mariner's Memorial on the Spit. Nice, clean, comfortable room. Not fancy, but totally fine. One thing...I can't confirm for other rooms, but ours did not have air-conditioning. I know. It's Alaska. BUT...it's a nice thing to know ahead of time, especially if you have allergies. You may not need your room to be cooler, but you DO want some air circulation. Just sayin... On the other hand, the Chart Room restaurant was an absolute life saver after the first long day of fishing got us back to the marina too late to make our reservation at Café Cups. We had reservations at the Chart Room the following night, which we ended up keeping because the service was so wonderful and the food was delicious, but were so grateful they could fit us in on short notice - even gave us a little time to wash up and change. Great wine! Great halibut! Great time!

Relaxing locationPosted Aug 14, 2014
Pros: The views, comfortable beds, nice toiletries and the sound of the sea all day and night
Cons: I was disappointed with the reception staff when we checked in and the same occurred 2 years ago. Aggressive and loud
Location: The hotel is right at the end of Homer spit. You need a car to get to nice shops and restaurants along the spit. I love Captain Patties restaurant for
We stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and loved the location. Our room had a balcony overlooking the ocean and we often sat on the balcony watching the sea otters swim by and the fishing boats go out and come in. Walks along the beach were really relaxing and we love the interesting appeal of Homer. Try the Boardwalk bakery for breakfast of reindeer sausages and eggs and Captain Patties for dinner. The fish is so fresh there and they have lovely interesting meals

Superb locationPosted Jun 17, 2014
The hotel is at the end of a narrow 4.5 mile spit. We had a room overlooking the sea. This is what made it so special. Even if the weather is bad, you can relax in your room enjoying the view and watch the otters swim by. (You would need binoculars for this). The rooms are well equiped but the down side is that you can hear voices from the adjoining rooms and also the running water. However, I would happily have stayed longer. There are several interesting stores in wooden shacks only a short walk away which adds to the character. The restaurant has a monopoly as there is little else in the way of restaurants unless you drive back onto the mainland. We considered the restaurant only adequate and would not have used it again if there was choice nearby. There were lots of staff wandering about but you had to wait for a particular member of staff to come before you could ask questions about the menu or order drinks. The people in this role seemed to vanish so that you had to wait while you watched the other staff walk up and down . This happened on both evenings that we ate there.

We had a great stay. Very clean and friendly staff. Huge bonus having the restaurant and espresso bar. Only thing I would change is the room mattress

Homer is not downtown NYC. This is a great place.Posted May 23, 2014
Pros: Setting, views, eagles, sea otters, 'the help', the restaurant, everything.
Cons: Exterior is a bit weather beaten but they seem to be fixing that.
Nice restaurant, fantastic view, great people working there. In all, I plan to go back next year.

Historic landmark in a favorite getaway spot!Posted May 12, 2014
Pros: We liked being right on the beach.
Location: We were in Homer for the annual Shorebird Festival. There are wonderful restaurants to choose from and interesting shops to browse.
Our cozy room was quiet and clean, with a wonderful deck facing the ocean. The full size bed would have been more comfortable if it were not up against one wall.
