HOMELY AND FRIENDLYPosted Dec 13, 2014
Location: Near Dickens World, shopping, Rochester, etc.
Every staff member whatever their role acknowledged us with a smile. The breakfast was fantastic and the lobby was lovely for sitting and chatting, with different open fires in different cubby holes. The room was spotless and the bed seriously comfortable. We had a brilliant night's sleep even though I can be insomniac, and there were many Christmas functions going on in the hotel that night.

Bricklayer's wivesPosted Nov 11, 2014
This is not really a 4 star hotel. Apart from anything else the rooms are too small. The Restaurant for dinner was good. Service and food were good. Menu a bit limited. The breakfast buffet was acceptable. However the bar food generally was poor and the service at the bar was atrocious. I ordered a tuna mayonnaise sandwich (hardly exotic) which took 35 minutes to arrive and when it did the bread was stale. When I complained to the Duty Manager, she didn't want to know. She said she'd get back to me but never did. I think the problem is with the management. Too many (say 30%) of the hotel staff were `disengaged' The hotel boasts a `Spa'. This is a mistake. It simply gives the opportunity for overweight people to swan about the bar in dressing gowns. Not good. I believe there used to be a programme `Footballer's wives'. This was more `Bricklayer's wives'

Pros: proximity to the town, bit next to the motorway, although you would not know - no noise
Cons: roo was slightly musty on opening - aired maybe?
Location: near to where we wanted to be,
We were attending a funeral in the area and stayed overnight. it met all our expectations, bar food was very good, and I would recommend this hotel to others

Above average hotel at an average hotel pricePosted Sep 25, 2014
Pros: Room size and equipment. Leisure facilities
Cons: Room service. I ran out of characters in my review above. The last sentence should end "....when it arrived it was very, very dry.
Location: Motorway (M2), close to M20. Rochester (cathedral and castle). Chatham with its historic docks.
Very smart appearance throughout. Our rooms were larger than we expected for the price and well equipped. Typical mass-produced furniture but a bit more style than the plain square-edged alternatives at many hotels in this price band. Leisure pool complex is very good and free for hotel guests. Most of the time the pool is reserved for adults but there are generous timeslots when children are allowed in, so choose your time depending on whether you have children or want to avoid them. Loungers and chairs in pool area for guardians or spouses who want to stay dry and an adjoining coffee lounge with glass wall if you want to watch the darlings but keep your shoes on. Breakfast is the usual self-help system although the menu says you can ask to be served at table. The usual choices too: small selection of prepared (apparently tinned) fruit, cereals, small deli selection, pastries and cooked choices on efficient warmers, regularly refreshed and a wider choice of eggs to order. No fresh fruit, though. The hotel is close to the motorway and road network and only a short drive to a couple of neighbouring towns, but there is nothing nearby to satisfy the need for evening meals. Perhaps that is why the restaurant and bar seemed to get rather busy. We had not reserved a table and couldn't get a table at all. Consequently we ordered room service which was very disappointing. It took ages to arrive - much longer than you would expect to wait in the restaurant itself, and when t arrived

Nice hotel let down by the restaurantPosted Sep 12, 2014 on Hotels.com
We stayed overnight. We had a nice ground floor room. The hotel was very pleasant and the staff all friendly and helpful. However we ate in the restaurant the night we arrived. We thought the food was just about OK for 4 stars but the wait for both the main course and again for desert was ridiculously long. We were thinking of cancelling when a waiter came to apologise for the delay. We will be visiting Rochester again soon and unfortunately will probably choose somewhere else next time.

Good value but not top notchPosted Aug 30, 2014 on Hotels.com
We stayed here over the bank holiday weekend. The rooms were good value overall but they are quite noisy (you hear everything going on I'm the rooms around you) and the breakfast service was pretty poor.

IGreat BreakfastPosted Aug 26, 2014 on Hotels.com
Breakfast good, evening meals a little pricey, bed comfortable, pillows not soft because I think the pillowcases maybe were too small . Hotel very busy on the Friday and more so on the Saturday because of weddings, we were pleased we ate out on the Saturday evening as the bar area had been taken over by the wedding. Very helpful staff, over all a fairly good stay.
