“Millers Arms is quaint, comfortable”

Dinner service was slow and not very efficient, but the food was OK. The location was not far from the west railway station, and the entire city is easily walkable.

“An Exceptional Inn in One of England's Most Engaging Towns”

The Millers Arms is a comfortable, friendly inn, with pub and restaurant, an easy five minute walk from Canterbury Cathedral and the excellent nearby cafes and shops around in and in the small town centre. The room was exceptionally clean and pleasant and breakfasts, included with the room, were exceptional, offering choices ranging from a full English breakfast (with a vegetarian option) to Eggs Benedict or Florentine, smoked haddock, hot cereal, eggs with smoked salmon or pancakes with bacon, all with toast and unlimited tea or coffee. On any return visit to Canterbury, I would be absolutely sure to stay here again!

Area recommendations
The central district of Canterbury is one of the historically most significant in all of Britain. The Cathedral itself, of course, is the spiritual centre of the Church of England (and where one of its archbishops, Thomas a Beckett, was murdered). The town has many visible vestiges of its Roman, Saxon and Norman past, while the central part has a contemporary continental flavour, bustling with French, Italian and Belgian cafes, as well as Moroccan, Mexican and Italian restaurants, decent bookstores and many shops in which to buy unusual gifts and souvenirs.

“Loved it!”

We had a wonderful time at the Millers Arms. They have just refurbished the restaurant and rooms and everything was lovely. The staff was helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great. We'll definitely stay again should we make a return visit to Canterbury.

“An interesting B&B pub”

The only thing I would suggest is that the hotel will install WIFI for the rooms. It has internet connection already at its reception desk. All it needs is a wireless router which nowadays is inexpensive. I'd recommend a booster antenna too. The old walls are too solid for WIFI to penetrate effectively.

Area recommendations
Canterbury is a very pleasant town with nice restaurants and shops, modern and ancient (Old Roman walls). The neighboring towns like Dover, Margate and Ramgate and the east coast (the White Cliffs) and the coast to the north of Canterbury are all excellent places to visit. They are both scenic and historical.
When to go
If you have the flexibility of time, i.e. no school calendars or work schedules, the best time for travel is in the low season, late September to mid-December (avoid the holiday season); then mid-January to late March (avoid Easter/Spring break); then late April to late May (avoid the summer holidays). UK is big on Halloween, too. Locals are in jovial mood and lots of partying. They celebrate Guy Fawke's Day on November 5. The legend says this guy, Guy Fawke, set off an explosion in the British Parliament as part of an assassination attempt on the king. The bomb exploded, but no one was hurt because the place was empty (in the middle of the night). Guy was arrested and almost died from his hanging sentence. Somehow the English remember him and every year on that day, lots of fireworks are lit. Celebration for a "terrorist" ? The English certainly have a sense of humor.

“Perfect base for your home away from home accommodations”

We had stayed at The Millers Arms in Canterbury two years ago and absolutely loved it. We were so happy to be going back again. Our stay was awesome. The staff were so experienced and helpful. The room was just as we remembered (lovely and comfortable). They are going to be updating the entire ground floor and it should be even better than it already is. Hopefully we can get back there again either in 2011 or 2012, but we are definately going to get back there without a doubt. It's the kind of place that you want to call home.

Area recommendations
Canterbury has so much to see and do pretty much any time of the year that you go there. It's easy to get to and get around in. A fantastic walking town.

“Good location”

Well located within walking distance to most attractions in Canterbury. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast comes with room. Rooms very small and rooms facing street may be noisy. Otherwise, a very good place to stay.

Traveler's tip
Don't miss Canterbury Cathedral.
