Old English charm with a modern twist.Posted Aug 17, 2013
Pros: The four poster bed
Cons: Small tv
Location: Close to everything.
Old world character meets new world standards of service. This charming old hotel has an old pub style bar next to a modern restaurant. The staff were very attentive and friendly. It was a pleasurable stay.

England; in the best possible sensePosted Aug 7, 2013
Pros: The hotel's interior can use some upgrading but its charm more than counter-balances that fact. A very large, bright, room. Great location.
Cons: A face-lift for the carpets and the tile in the bathroom.
Location: A 10 minute walk from the rail station. Even closer, the High Street of Tonbridge Wells; its shops and restaurants and pubs.
A lovely stay. The hotel's interior can use some upgrading but its charm more than counter-balances that fact. A very large, bright, room. A 10 minute walk from the rail station. Even closer, the High Street of Tonbridge Wells; its shops and restaurants and pubs. Across from the hotel, a park overlooking the entire village, convenient footpaths speeding you to wherever you're headed. Breakfast is superb. Continental and / or Full English; perfectly prepared and presented. Easy access WIFI and satellite TV.

DisappointingPosted Jun 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
Booked a superior room and was given a room with a four poster bed which was surprising for a singe male business traveler. Not sure about the teddy bear provided on the pillow! Bed was very comfortable. However, room was very worn and a bit grubby. Bathroom despite having a roll top bath had peeling wall paper and stained carpet. Lampshades had cob webs. Staff were either abrupt or disorganised except when checking out. Generally the feeling that this place is trading on heritage value and past glories, even at the discounted rate I paid it was not good value for money. Needs to modernise and raise its game. I won't return.

Noise from disco until almost 1amPosted Jun 24, 2013 on Hotels.com
I really wanted to like this hotel. The greeting I got from the front desk when I arrived was very pleasant and welcoming. The place certainly has character. I was willing to overlook the threadbare patches on the carpets, but things started to go wrong when I found that the hotel didn't actually have its own WiFi service but depends on TheCloud. I didn't particularly want to sign up for another service. The bathroom was quirky, but OK. What ruined the stay for me was the noise from the disco that kept me awake until almost 1am. I appreciate that the hotel offers other services and others want to enjoy themselves, but this shouldn't be at my expense. An 11:30 or perhaps midnight curfew doesn't seem unreasonable. (Better would be for rooms to have proper sound insulation, but I realise this wouldn't be possible here.) Otherwise, let guests know that they may have less sleep than they expected (as I'm doing here) so they can make informed choices. Breakfast was pleasant enough, but although amiable the waiter appeared continually distracted. It took for too long to take and then deliver my order, and he seemed to hope that I'd forgotten that I'd asked for toast as well. A small issue, certainly, but detracting from the sense of being taken care of.

Great BreakfastPosted Jun 6, 2013 on Hotels.com
Excellent reception room, the rooms were very tired and quirky but not too bad. We were planted right next to the loos so quite noisy at night, The breakfast room was lovely and the staff very organised.

Convenient for townPosted May 13, 2013
Pros: Close to town
Cons: Felt a bit like we were in the way..
Location: Close to town
Staff all seemed to be having a bad day when we were there. Everything took a long time and then we were nearly charged again even though we'd paid up front... Room was lovely, however, and check in was fine.
