A mixture of highs and lows

Posted Jul 29, 2015
Pros: The food was fabulous, the spa was great and the staff were extremely friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable.
Cons: Fix the fire alarms...
Location: There is so much to do nearby that I couldn't even begin to go into details.
Fist off, let me say that the staff were wonderful, pleasant and helpful, the food was delicious, the room was great and the spa facilities were fabulous. However, when booking the room I mentioned that my partner was disabled, but they still gave us a room at the botom of a short flight of stairs, with no lift. When asked about moving the staff were very apologetic but said all the disabled rooms were taken. We said, fine, just put us in a normal room but not at the bottom of stairs, but they couldn't because the hotel was full. Then at 5:25am on the Saturday morning the fire alarms went off for 3 minutes, which turned out to be a false alarm and a fault. Saturday and Sunday passed off without a hitch, but then at 2:35am on Monday morning... you guessed it, the fire alarms went off. Another fault, but this time also triggering the sprinklers and flooding our corridor. The whole corridor was evacuated (except us as the water didn't wuite reach our room), which meant the rest of our night was disturbed by firemen and hotel staff squelching up and down the corridor outside our room. Did I enjoy the hotel? See the first sentence. Would I go back? Certainly, but this time I would hope for a room without stairs and no fire alarms. Overall, a fabulous hotel that I just think we caught on a bad weekend.

Mixed clientele

Posted Jun 15, 2015
We stayed for 2 nights over a weekend wanting a relaxing break. The staff were pleasant, courteous and attentive. The hotel caters for weddings, golfers and those on a Spa break, so gets a mix of people wanting a lively atmosphere and those wanting to relax. Its difficult to cater for these 2 groups and the hotel doesn't quite get it right. The pool was a bit too small for such a large hotel if you want it to be relaxing and the dining room can get noisy easily. Other than that its a decent hotel, plenty of amenities, easy to find, plenty of parking, good menu and for the price very good value.

Easy drive to Port Lympne zoo.

Posted Apr 12, 2015
Pros: Location. Reasonable price. Spa.
Cons: Jacuzzi. Cheaper menu and don't charge £4 for a bottle of water that should be complimentary if offered.
Location: Maidstone town. Port Lympne zoo. Leeds Castle.
A nice little break away. It's in a quiet place but conveniently close to the motorway for busier locations. Food was lovely, (a tad overpriced in the Grill but still tasty.) Swimming pool is reasonably sized, doesn't go very deep though so obviously caters more for childen. No jacuzzi which was a shame but sauna and steam room was good. Staff were friendly.
