amazing locationPosted Sep 12, 2013
Pros: size, facilities, friendly personal, location, modern design,
Cons: The shower curtain pole was rusty.
The hotel is absolutely wonderful. The location is just perfect with great walks. If you are looking for true relaxation, book this hotel! The lodges we stayed in are very well equipped and have plenty of space.

Lovely hotel with many facilities in an area of outstanding natural beauty. If we return to this area we would not consider staying anywhere else.

Beautiful grounds but disappointing stayPosted Aug 22, 2013 on Hotels.com
We had high hopes for the place given its historic reputation and while the grounds were gorgeous, the hotel itself left a lot to be desired. Our bed was two twin beds pushed together so it was very uncomfortable. The bathroom was really outdated and our bathtub/shower didn't drain properly so you had to stand in about 4-6 inches of water as you showered. One of the towels in our bathroom was also dirty (had black eyeliner/mascara lines on it) and the clean ones weren't even neatly folded on the racks. These are all things that would be liveable but given this is supposed to be a five star hotel, it was really surprising...My fiance's sister had a better room with a nice view and we had asked if there was a similar one (her room was a little more updated--flatscreen, nicer decor, updated bathroom---***though her toilet stopped flushing after the first few hours!!). We were told that all the standard rooms were the same but DEFINITELY that is not accurate since her room was at least 50% nicer even with it's broken toilet. Other things: The gym was quite basic and not all of the equipment worked correctly. Upsides: The workers are the hotel were quite lovely and the breakfast was great (though service there was a little spotty). And of course, the grounds are stunning. Again, we were really looking forward to our stay there but our room was so disappointing that despite the amazing location and grounds, we might not return and would seek other local options.

Old world atmosphere and servicePosted Aug 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
This is a great resort with fascinating walks along the islands, range of activities, excellent cuisine and a cosy bar. Breakfasts as good as they get. The setting is breathtaking and the hotel feels like one has been transported back to an Agatha Christie period novel with old fashioned service and elegance (though fortunately no dead bodies!)..

Really a world of its own!Posted Aug 10, 2013
Pros: stunning views and friendly staff
Cons: I thought the rooms could do with some updating
Location: fantastic grounds with sea views, swimming and a hot tub overlooking the mountains
At first glance I thought the decor was a bit tired, but the setting, staff and overall experience were great. The food and service were great, the views stunning and the leisure facilities, activities and grounds were wonderful. Lovely friendly place in a beautiful part of Kerry and I hope to return soon!

DissapointingPosted Jul 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
The location of this hotel has to be seen to be belived. The facilities are very good. But the staff are rushed and casual in a manner that completely contradicts the style and setting (and price). Polite feedback given at checkout seemed to fall on deaf ears. I believe owners and managers are creating a difficult work environment for the staff. So dissappointing. This hotel could really be one of the true greats.

Very relaxing atmosphere. We only ate in the bar but the food was excellent. Lovely walks in the grounds and the thermal spa was great for a rainy day.

A real gemPosted May 15, 2013 on Hotels.com
Recently stayed in Parknasilla for the first time and absolutely loved it. The location is sublime. Acres and acres of forest and coastal walks, islands, seal watching and fairy trails. As for the hotel, it has an feeling of slightly jaded grandeur to it. Spacious public areas replete with overstuffed armchairs, open fires and chaises longues overlooking the bay. The room we stayed in could do with some TLC. However, it was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The spa area is wonderful - heated swimming pool, thermal suite (steam rooms, sauna and heated loungers) and outdoor Jacuzzis overlooking the bay. My only gripe is that kids are admitted to the pool only between 10 and 5.30. We didn't eat in the restaurant, but the bar menu is fine and breakfast was faultless. The staff were friendly and helpful. There are also free guided walks of the grounds which I recommend. The one we went on lasted about 1.5 hrs along some very steep forest paths - so I don't recommend doing it in heels. the hotel is about 3km from Sneem where there are a number of pubs and restaurants. A taxi costs around €6. We cycled once, but the road is a bit dangerous. Can't wait to go back.
