Check in was a snap. Ample parking. Nice rooms with a very nice balcony (screened-in) over looking the channel. Sitting back and relaxing watching the water craft pass by. Stores and restaurants all within walking distance.

Pros: location
Cons: Needs a complete overhaul - rugs, appliances, furniture, doors and blinds all replaced
Location: on a canal so watching boat traffic is good, refurbished African Queen is on the same canal.
The door to the room had a hole in it - all the way through. When I sat on the couch a lizard jumped out of it. We tried to get it to go out through the hole in the door. The rug was filthy and stained. The kitchen cupboard doors were falling off. The dishwasher was so worn that it was rusted throughout. The stove was so old the control panel was worn off and there were rust stains on the bottom of the stove. The paint was worn off the stove fan hood. The vertical blinds for the slider were missing several pieces and the slider would not lock.

Reasonable, Spacious, Clean

Posted Feb 21, 2015
Pros: Just about everything
Cons: WiFi was a bit spotty. Not really a big deal.
Location: Walk down the street and see beautiful ocean views and mansions. Walk the other way and see the "African Queen" from the movie of the same name.
We had booked 2 nights at a nearby "resort" hotel which was so disgusting that we cancelled the second night, and were lucky to find this nearby hotel. The price was comparable but the difference was incredible. At the resort we had a small room, leaking sink, broken fixtures in the bathroom, peeling paint etc. But at the Key west we had a 2 floor spacious sweet, clean, modern appliances in a full kitchen and a view of the canal with million dollar yachts and mansions down the street.

Great view of channel

Cool place but needs a little TLC, some things are in need of repair. Front Desk agent upon check in was fantastic, and sitting out on the deck overlooking the channel was great.

a good deal

Our suite was on two floors. There is a bath and bedroom with a great bed upstairs as well as a TV. Downstairs there is a sitting room with a pullout sofa bed. The latter didn't have a very good mattress, but I slept well anyway. The kitchenette has stove, frig, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, dishes, silverware, and pots and pans. We had our own private screened balcony overlooking a waterway. Really great atmosphere. The property is old, and so are most of the appliances. I felt it was good value for the money.

Nice motel, reasonably priced

Posted Feb 12, 2015
Cons: Furnishing and appliances very dated & in need of upgrade.
Location: Conveniently located close to Florida Hwy #1 and restaurants in Key Largo.
Needed a reasonably priced motel for a 1 night stay & this filled the bill. While very dated, the room was spacious and clean, especially the washrooms!

got the job done

Posted Feb 1, 2015
Pros: big, spacious, kitchen, 2 bathrooms, snorkeling tours available on site.
Cons: a little bit cleaner
Location: restaurants, snorkeling, john pennekamp park
this is an older place, that was previously a best western, and previous to that was meant to be a condo. it is a stacked 2 story unit, and has full kitchen with dishwasher. there is a closet with hookups for washer/dryer. they also have 2 bathrooms. people will say, the carpet is dirty, etc, but you get so much space for your money. there is a booth on site selling snorkel trips and you get a discount for staying here. i love this place and will be back.

Probably perfectly ok most of the time

Posted Jan 28, 2015
Pros: Not a fancy high classed resort. The price was right too! Good location for both state parks and good birding and the boat canal. Pool just ok.
They were putting on a new roof. Work started by 7 a.m. and ended at dark (6:30 p.m. or so). Parking and just walking to our room was a big dangerous. We got tons of space for the money and, because it is not a fancy place at all, it is just what we like. But just not the days we were there!
