A dated hotelPosted Jun 11, 2014
Pros: The staff were the best bit about the hotel. The majority were extremely welcoming.
Cons: The hotel should be more concerned about the standard their food. Raw pastry is unacceptable, as is an incorrect menu. Room standards could be better.
Location: The golf course is good and the loch is beautiful. However, there is little else to do and no other restaurants in walking distance.
Staff were for the most part friendly and helpful. However the cleanliness wasn't excellent and used glasses were not always changed. The pastry of a dessert was raw and the first waitress seemed unconcerned (but the another waiter was very friendly and helpful) and the food on the menu did not always match the food on the plate! Breakfasts were of a very low standard; one example is the orange juice, which was sweetened and artificial, not real orange juice. However, the restaurant at the Green Hotel cooked meat very well (the lamb and pork dishes were excellent). The pictures online are misleading; the rooms and food are dated and the rooms are actually at the back of the property (the white building in the pictures is the restaurant) and so the view from our room was the metal roof of the swimming pool. Many lights in our room were not working. It was fine for our purpose as we used it as a base to explore the main attractions of Scotland. However, we were disappointed and wouldn't recommend it if you plan to spend a lot of time at the location. If you are visiting the hotel for the golf, choose the other hotel across the road or else lower your expectations. In hindsight, we would have have rather stayed in a Premier Inn instead.

Another great break at the WindlestraePosted May 21, 2014 on Hotels.com
We have stayed at the hotel several times and have always enjoyed our stay. The hotel's facilities - pool and gym plus pets welcome, free WiFi and a great breakfast - are a magnet for us. This time we also ate evening meals in the hotel - both Monty's and Rushes. Both were excellent and the service was first class. The staff are all pleasant and helpful and the rooms are comfortable. We will be back again.

Very pleasantPosted Apr 20, 2014 on Hotels.com
There is a disconnection between staff and guests. We had to search for staff and ask them to find menus for the food in restaurants and bars The division between the two premises would be confusing to a complete stranger. the swimming pool was excelent

Squeeky FloorsPosted Mar 13, 2014 on Hotels.com
Hotel is superb except that the floors creek and groan constantly. Shower is top notch and everything clean. Not much to do nearby but Muirs Pub 50 yards away offers good food and friendly service.

Just a tasterPosted Jan 5, 2014 on Hotels.com
I stayed in the Windlestrae because of the location to attend a nearby family event. I enjoyed my short stay very much though I didn't have time to sample the Spa. Maybe next time!
