Hotel for the Black ForestPosted Aug 23, 2014
Pros: * The décor * The quiet ambience - all day! * The breakfasts * It's suitability for exploring the southern Black Forest
Cons: * Air conditioning needed, at least in the room we had
Location: Kirchzarten is an ideal place for exploring the Black Forest.
We had a very pleasant stay at the Sonne. The room was comfortable and well colour coordinated. Arriving early by car there was no problem checking in. Parking was in the nearby public car park. Our room was at the front of the hotel but not too noisy. The beds were comfortable and there was a seating area in the room with a table. There was a TV but only CNN in English. The en-suit shower room had excellent shower. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice.

Schwarzwald guesthouse atmospherePosted May 1, 2014
Pros: We loved the authentic guesthouse atmosphere of this very fine hotel in the center of Kirchzarten.
With all the touches of an authentic Schwarzwald guesthouse, this is a very fine, well-run hotel in the center of Kirchzarten. The staff was most friendly and accommodating, our room with balcony was lovely, their restaurant menu was irresistible, and their breakfast buffet was a great start to the day!

Traditional Gasthaus In Lovely VillagePosted Apr 20, 2014
Pros: Traditional decor; location; restaurant.
Cons: We would have preferred a double mattress rather than two singles put together.
Location: Village square, facing main road. Lots of restaurants, cafés, small shops. Hiking, biking, touring.
The hotel is a traditional German Gasthaus. We originally booked a small double with balcony which the manager suggested we upgrade as it was very small. The upgrade was to a beautiful, sunny large room which was worth every euro! Although without a balcony. As others have said the hotel is on a busy road which might be a problem in the summer when the windows would be open. We would book a room away from the road in future. The hotel restaurant is excellent and is very reasonably priced. A traditional continental breakfast was served with a good range of fruit, breads, meats, cheeses, muesli and scrambled or boiled egg. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The village has an excellent range fo cafes, restaurants and there are several small supermarkets and chemists nearby. It is also well placed for hiking and biking. We will definitely return!

Avoid - too noisy, too smallPosted Mar 23, 2014 on Hotels.com
Worst hotel we experienced during a one week stay in Germany. Staff were friendly and professional, but the room was tiny (could barely walk around the bed), and the noise from the street was so loud that it felt like sleeping outside. The bed also sloped slightly and the place was generally unattractive. Parking was next door, but inconvenient because of very small spaces and a crowded lot. There are much better places to stay in the Freiburg area.

Quaint, boutique hotelPosted Dec 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
I would definitely rate this hotel highly. It is in a beautiful location at the foot of the Black Forest. The included transport card is a huge plus as it allows you to stroll up to Kirchartzen station and take a scenic journey in through the Black Forest. The rooms were a good size although in a slight need of a renovation. But that's being picky! Highly recommended and would definitely stay there again.

Upstairs room no elevator. Also, didn't like the fact you had to lock & unlock your room with a key when you were inside your room.

Terrific Guest House Near Freiburg, Germany. GreatPosted Sep 29, 2013 on Hotels.com
House originally built in 720 ! Nicely modernized. Truly non-smoking. Very good breakfast and excellent dinner. Though we had largely read the dinner menu the owner came and sat with us to explain menu. Not inexpensive, but a good value. Lake Titisee is nearby. Ten minute drive to Freiburg. Better WiFi coverage would be only requested improvement.

Pros: the staff, the food, the charm, the area.....
Cons: I guess the only improvement i could think of might be a fan in the rooms.....a little warm...
Location: Very close to train station to get around...nice little mall nearby
Charming, family owned hotel in a charming little town..great location, close to the train station, stores, etc. Real old world charm
