Pros: The history
I liked the fact that this place has history. Clean, friendly staff. I will come back for sure. Negative...they need to have parking vouchers. The public parking is only 1 block away which is ok...not good if you own a motorcycle though. $14 to park for the day, they should make a deal with the city and have a reduced rate for guests. Buffet breakfast was great!

Walper Hotel Nov2013Posted Nov 25, 2013
Pros: Character, the building has so much history, and yes there are spirits there!!
Location: Fun country bar, great restaurants all around, market is close, fun shopping downtown.
We were very pleased with our stay at the Walper Hotel. We were able to walk around downtown, great breakfast at slices down the street.

Pros: The price and proximity to Univ of Waterloo.
Cons: Breakfast to be improved. There was no one at the omelet station to take our order, the dish for eggs benedicts was empty, pancakes were dry.

Beautiful historic hotel in the middle of everythiPosted Nov 23, 2013
My sisters and I spent the night at this wonderful historic hotel. We had dinner at Yuk Yuk's and were greatly entertained. The beds are extremely comfortable and the room was gorgeous. The breakfast buffet was hot and delicious with lots of variety. I highly recommend this hotel!

Pros: Food in the Rum Runners Pub was excellent.
Cons: Our room 414 had the sink pulled away from the wall which I advised the hotel on check out. There is no shelf in the showers to park your soap and sha

Parking was the big issue having to park around the corner in public parking lot. If I had known about this I would not have booked this hotel unless the price warranted it. It is overpriced for then facilities.

Very old hotel in a not-so-nice part of townPosted Nov 11, 2013
Pros: Not much, but all the other hotels in town were booked for hockey and curling tournaments.
Cons: Um, everything.....
Location: The area was very uncomfortable location for a woman traveling alone. Not a good area of town. Parking was in the city garage across the street.
The first room was a very small (even by NYC standards) room with a dinky bathroom. The toilet overflowed twice, even after my complaints. Then, after an all-day class, I returned to the room to find that the heater had been turned up, leaving the room at literally 100 degrees, even melting chocolate. I went down to the desk to once again to complain, and was put into the room next door, which was a 2-room suite. The second room was night and day different from the first, although both rooms had VERY dirty and old carpeting and missing, dirty bathroom tile flooring. But when I returned after my third day of classes, the noise below my room was unbearable! There was a band playing, with an extremely loud DJ. I went to the desk and asked how late this would go on, and was told at least until midnight, and was offered ear plugs and the breakfast buffet voucher the next morning (it was supposed to go until 11:30, and when I was there at 10:45, the food was stale and they were breaking down!). I wouldn't go there again if it was the last place in Kitchener - or Canada!

Historic hotel right downtownPosted Oct 21, 2013
Pros: Historic building right downtown
Location: Farmers' market, Museum, Centre in the Square, restaurants and transit
Staff were great and location is tops, but rooms - or my room anyway - was only partly renovated. Bathroom sink was older than me... And a funny kitchenette in my room was equally due to be retired. But bed was good, and I wasnt expecting a kitchen. Apparently it is under new ownership so hopefully it will get better! I will stay again.
