Wireless is almost useless; rooms uninvitingPosted Jul 28, 2013 on Hotels.com
Overall, the hotel is fine for what it is, and if the price were right I would stay here again. The room was clean, the location is great, and the amenities were fine. However, there were two big problems. First, the hotel advertises free wireless in the rooms, but the wireless signal was so weak and unstable that our phones would not connect to it. The computers would connect, but the connection was extremely slow and so almost worthless. Second, the theme of the hotel is Spanish missions, and much of the architecture and decorations are very dark and a little spooky. The lobby furniture is old and threadbare, the carpets are worn and water damaged, and the public areas are dark. The worst part about the theming is the rooms, where a cold tile floor and stucco walls give the impression that you are sleeping in a courtyard that was just walled in.

Very nice and confortablePosted Jul 19, 2013 on Hotels.com
It is located in the downtown Kobe area. I expect a normal boring business hotel with the minimum space in the room at this location, but this hotel is very different. As the building has long history, the room is exceptionally spacious from Japanese standard. It is reasonably well maintained and everything is clean enough.

Convenient and Great ValuePosted Jul 12, 2013
Pros: Location, pleasant staff, interior decor, cleanliness of rooms, GREAT VALUE
Location: There are MANY shopping stores and restaurants. Sannomiya is also a convenient location between Himeji, Osaka and Kyoto.
I read some reviews on this hotel and was a bit hesitant at first since there were some reviews stating that the hotel was outdated. My spouse and I decided to stay because of the good deal offered at the time and the location of the hotel was exactly where we wanted to be. We are glad we went with the Hotel Monterey Kobe. The hotel interior is beautiful! Upon arrival, I could immediately see that the style was Old World and I loved it! The hotel staff were very pleasant and held our luggage until we could check-in later in the afternoon. The rooms were spacious (for a Japanese hotel) and very clean. When we put a "do not disturb" sign on our door, the hotel staff left a bag of fresh towels and amenities for us in front of our room. Not to mention, the hotel is located a few minutes from the train station and in the middle of great shopping areas and restaurants. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Monterey Kobe again!

Nice Italian style hotel in the middle of busy JP.Posted Feb 14, 2013
Pros: Wifi and look of hotel.
Cons: Corridors were very dingy.
Location: Nice location. Easy to find!
Great room, very large for Japan, nice stone floor, great shower. Only problem... I wasn't in the room long enough. 2 nights next time!

Great locationPosted Aug 1, 2012 on Hotels.com
The hotel was in a great location (a bit hard to find) only five minute walk from nearest train station and close to plenty of great restaurants and shopping. I'll come back here again!

Excellent hotelPosted Sep 4, 2009
Caught a taxi to the Monterey from Shin Kobe station (about a 1000 Yen ride). Hotel is right next to Ikuta Shrine and quite close to Sannomiya Station and the shopping district. We had a double room which was quite large and very comfortable. Free internet provided. Staff proficient in English if you are an non-Japanese speaker. Highly recommend this hotel for its pleasant atmosphere. Will be coming back. :)
