Hustle checking inPosted Dec 16, 2013
Pros: Price and other customer service staff
To instruct the hotels to ease customer's check-in process. We had a problem checking in at the Shangri-la Tanju Aru in Kota Kinabalu. It's was dinner time when we (a party of 4 couples, 4 rooms to stay for 2 nights, spending a week for our honeymoons) arrived at the hotel after a long day snorkeling, we were tired, wet and hungry, the receptionist who did not greeted us at the front desk, but just to asked for a printed paper for our booking otherwise they were not able to check us in, which paper I did not carry, and her attitude was unfriendly; even after I showed her the reservation numbers on my cellphone, she insisted she would not be able to check us; this is a very unreasonable and unusual hotel policy even for a "5-Star" hotel, not to mention it's a "Shangri-la". We stay at 5-star hotels for many occasions throughout the year, for leisure and business, and I had had experience working for the Marriott, the Hyatt and the Radisson in the US and the UK, this would not be classified as a 5-star hotel policy or even a "hotel service"... I had to asked for the manager to deal with the situation, and after 25 minutes of waiting for the manager to "sort out" to situations, we were only able to check-in, and it was definitely not the good start for our honeymoon holidays that we expected having to deal with the hussel and putting my wife and my friends in unease moods... I would like to hear the voice from the General Manager at Shangri-la Tanju Aru, which could potentially

Shanfgri-La Tanjung Aru sun rises...Posted Nov 25, 2013
Pros: The views were beautiful, the staff were very welcoming and useful, the facilities were very good.
Cons: The Breakfast buffet felt like a free-for-all, either the restaurant should be expanded or there should be timed sittings for breakfast.
Location: It's a quiet beach location, there's not much within a walking distance. RM$30 cab to Tanjung Aru plaza which has a hawker stalls with lots of food.
We booked a mountain facing room but were lucky enough to get a corner room which also had some view of the South China Sea, so we would watch the beautiful sunrise every morning at 6am. The room was very large with enough floor space to put our suitcases and the bed had a hilarious view of the bathroom through a window! The window could be obscured with a window blind, but the blind could be kept open to watch tv whilst in the bath and there was also a connected sound system in the bath room from the tv so you could hear everything. The bath, sink, toilet and shower were well spaced and the shower cubicle was a good size. The room we had was the furthest away from reception in the Tanjung wing on the 5th floor (I requested for a higher floor) but because we had a sea and mountain view, the long walks were worth it. The inclusive breakfast was vast but due to some renovation issues, we did not have the full variety for two out of three days and all the service stations were outdoors, nevertheless the food was a good quality and they even had a congee, noodles, and egg station for freshly made food. On the third day when the renovations had completed, the food was moved back inside, but there were so many people queuing to get seated and there were queues to get food, it did not feel like a 5* establishment. We did enjoy sitting in the Lounge Bar and listening to the live pianist and live band. Also, the Sunset Bar has the best view in the area, but go early to get a good seat

Nice location with good view & serene surroundingsPosted Nov 7, 2013
Pros: The calm environment, comfortableness and good customer service.
Cons: The taste of food, i think most of the food are less salty.
Location: This hotel is situated just by Tanjung Aru Beach. It is also quite near from Kota Kinabalu City.
Room is very comfortable and clean, hotel area is surrounded by the peaceful seaview and very nice sunset view. Lots of activities held by the hotel for the residents and the facilities provided are awesome.

Great holiday breakPosted Sep 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
My wife and I stayed there for one week, it was our fourth visit to the hotel. We like to return to it because it is not only a well managed hotel with service and and aminities in top class, but also have a great staff which adds that very important human touch to a hotel which makes you want to return again and again. The hotel is in a quiet location, approx. 15 minutes taxi ride away from Kota Kinabalu.

Location: Locally food avaliable. 10 minutes walk from the resort.
We book sea view with club access which gives you unforgettable view of sunset everyday from the balcony. Also have access to the club lounge to have snack in the afternoon which is well worth it. The staff are very friendly and always happy to assist you. Kids will love the resort as it has do much to do.

The whole family loved this hotel. Great place to unwind after 14 days of travelling the west coast. My son love the pool & slides & jet skiing (at a reasonable price) The hotel was booked to capacity so deck chairs by the pool were hard to come by. We had a club room (well worth the money) which included breakfast & pre dinner drinks & snacks in the club lounge. The only down side was the location, a shuttle into KK would of been handy.

A slice of paradise - Gorgeous Sunset / ViewsPosted May 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
What a gorgeous location. I spent quite a lot of time just sitting by the beach (cabana at Coco Jos) soaking in the breathtaking views of the vast ocean and surrounding islands. The gorgeous sunset will forever stay etched in my mind. Staff are extremely friendly. Room was nice - although I was slightly disappointed with my "mountain view" room - didn't see much of the mountain. Food was acceptable. Spa was GREAT...very pricey though. Overall a great experience, I'd definitely recommend this resort. I also plan to visit Borneo and its surrounding islands again soon.
