For the economical and easy travelerPosted Sep 4, 2013
Pros: Extremely friendly and helpful staff, great free breakfast, good free wifi, close to restaurants and shops, tour package available, laundry service.
Cons: No improvement needed, though travelers should be aware that there is no elevator, so they will need to be prepared to walk up stairs to their rooms.
Location: Right in the middle of restaurants and shops galore. Hotel offers access to a great Ephesus tour. About 45 minutes from Izmir airport.
My friend and I enjoyed our stay at Urkmez Hotel and it was mainly due to the hospitality of the brothers and father who manage the hotel. They are extremely helpful and when my friend's baggage got lost en route, Cem helped to make sure that it arrived to the hotel in a timely manner once it was recovered at the Izmir airport. Cem even taught me some Turkish while we were waiting for the lost luggage situation to be sorted out! The free breakfast each morning was such a treat--hearty and delicious and a great start to the day. The wireless was good and not spotty like in other places we stayed during our trip. Also, we were able to gain access to a really great Ephesus tour through the hotel--really fun tour guide and I learned so much! The hotel's laundry service was efficient, as well. The rooms and bathrooms are simple and they have a nice balcony. If you're not a fussy traveler, then the hotel has everything you need for your stay at a great price. You will also be right in the middle of restaurants and shops galore.

Friendly Pension in the heart of SelcukPosted Jun 11, 2013 on Hotels.com
Clean, airy room, everything you need in a simple pension in the centre of Selcuk. Staff friendly and helpful. Associated restaurant has good food and fair price, apart from wine which was double compared to a large beer. Can recommend for a low cost good value stay.

Good location and view of storksPosted Jun 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
This small hotel is an excellent choice for the budget minded traveller. The rooms are simple, comfortable and clean. The friendly hosts offer a nice breakfast on the rooftop terrace with the only view of the nesting storks on top of Roman arches frim above! Located in the restaurant and pedestrian shopping area. Also a block from the train station and free parking.

Would not recomend the hotel.Posted May 7, 2013 on Hotels.com
It was my second time in Seljuk and because of the location of the hotel Urkmez, I decided to give it a try. The hotel is extremely simple, with lots of stairs to climb. My room was very small, and the shower was also really small, which made it impossible to close the curtain. But the real issue I found was a sewer stench that came from the bathroom, that they only way to stay in the room was to keep the bathroom door closed and open the balcony door. Breakfast was not good either: small cramped buffet area and not a great variety of options. I would not recommend this hotel.

Great Location for Ephesus VisitPosted May 5, 2013 on Hotels.com
My wife and I had no complaints as the staff was very attentative to assist us. We arrived around 11:00pm and had a hard time finding the hotel as it is located on a walking street. We parked the car and walked while receiving good directions from the town residents. The staff was very kind and walked back to our car with us so he could show us where to park and also carried our bags which was only 50-steps to the hotel. Our room faced the street and had a small balcony, there are several places to eat nearby. We enjoyed the breakfast which starts at 8:00am on the upper terrace - outstanding with fresh fruit, bread, cheeses, eggs ... unfortunatly we only spent one night but the town is very quaint and the location of the hotel is perfect. If you are worried about getting up, the call to prayer is very loud even with the door closed. Overall a great place to stay with a very helpful staff

best breakfast in SelchukPosted May 1, 2013
Pros: Location, friendliness of staff, breakfast
Cons: Rooms are small
Location: Right in the center of towb
Hotel rooms are small and simple but clean and comfortable. There is a lounge with book exchange, tea and drinks, and TB. Owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. Hotel offers the best breakfast buffet that I encountered during three weeks in Turkey. Definitely value for money. I would recommend this hotel to any cost- conscious traveler. If you are looking for five star luxury it's not for you.

Great location, friendly welcomePosted Apr 3, 2013 on Hotels.com
The Urkmez is well located in the heart of Selcuk - very close to all of the restaurants, banks and bus station and 10 minutes from the nearby sights. The room was fairly basic, but good value for the price paid. Breakfast on the roof terrace was excellent and varied during our four nights there. The owners and staff were also very friendly and welcoming. The only negative would be that parking was advertised - when in reality, we had to park on the street a few minutes away. Perhaps a better place to stay if you are travelling without a car.

Exceptionally friendly family-run hotelPosted Mar 31, 2013 on Hotels.com
Urkmez was a very charming family run hotel. The owner Jimmy was beyond helpful and accommodating to us. Breakfast was served on the rooftop with a view of the castle and the storks in their nests! On the day of our departure Jimmy met us at 7am to walk us across the street to the train station and even stopped to buy us pastries since we were missing breakfast. Highly recommended if you want a cozy, family run hotel.

Okay base of operations in SelcukPosted Mar 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
We traveled in Turkey for 2 weeks in March and stayed at four different hotels in Istanbul, Goreme, and Selcuk, all priced about the same (adjusting for the Istanbul mark-up). The Urkmez was our least favorite of the four - it was fine as a base of operations and passable as a room, but pretty standard fare. Our room was on the 2nd floor, which meant 3 floors of winding staircase up and down each day (no elevator). There was a little leak in the shower and the toilet that meant the bathroom floor was damp most mornings. The bed was fine, and the nearby street wasn't loud so we could keep the windows open most days with no problem. The breakfast was above average, and the terrace had a nice view of the nearby St. John's Cathedral ruins and castle. Transport to Ephesus was easily arranged by the hotel staff (they even grouped us with another couple so we could save on cab fare), and the day was nice enough that we choose to walk the pleasant 2 miles from the site back into town. Very good location if you're traveling by train - it's a 2-minute walk from the station, which was great! Be sure to visit the Tugba candy shop about 2 blocks down as well. Overall, good for a brief stay and a base of operations.
