“Loved Opatija”

We stayed at the Imperial Hotel for one night in Sept 2011. The hotel is on the main street through town and had free parking for our rental car in a lot in behind. The large hotel has old world charm but our room desperately needed upgrading as the carpet was worn and it needed painting. The bathroom was small but adequate. There was no AC but we could leave our windows open for a comfortable sea breeze. The location was excellent across from the sea promenade and we were able to swim off of the concrete sea access. Breakfast was the best we've had and was hosted in the grand ballroom which takes you back to the Hapsburg era. Free WiFi was accessible in the lobby and breakfast rooms only. We would not hesitate to stay there again.

Area recommendations
This hotel was conveniently located in Opatija.
Dining
Had a fantastic meal, the best we've eaten in Croatia, at the Plavi Podrum Restaurant in nearby Volosko (20 min walk along the promenade). We ordered the 4 course meal for two and did not regret the higher than average cost.
