relaxing location

the hotel was good value. the food was very good, the view lovely although the balcony was in need of a little care and attention. the location was excellent and most of the staff were attentive and thoughtful. BUT>>>>!!!! the towels!!!!!!!! They were appalling!! Really thin and flat. Very difficult to dry yourself and so uncomfortable! Come on Hotel Admiral, some new fluffy towels would make such a difference as well as some dispensers where you could actually manage to squeeze out some soap. I had to go and buy soap as I was unable to get any out of the dispensers. it makes you look a bit mean!

We had booked this hotel for 5 nights but ended up staying for only one. We drove through the town and marvelled at all of the beautiful buildings and our hearts sank went we saw the Admiral from the outside as it was tired and tatty looking. We checked into the hotel, the staff were helpful and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We went into our room however and it was extremely dark and tired. Whilst it was clean, it felt old and would have been a thoroughly depressing place to spend any time. We changed rooms to one of the 'captain rooms'. These are the ones that are shown in the pictures on this site, there are six of them in the whole hotel so not likely to be one you end up in. They were newly decorated (not to a very high quality but new and fresh not the less) and had access to a beautiful private terrace and hot tub (although not filled during our stay). The air conditioning worked but was ineffective. The terrace was a great size with amazing views but the room was TINY. We had breakfast which was okay although there was not a separate smoking area outside which was a bit off putting at breakfast. Given that the room was really small and the hotel was full of people who appeared to have arrived on a coach trip we decided to leave the hotel and stay somewhere else despite the change of room. Overall, I would have been happy with the hotel if I had been paying 50% of the money that I was.

Great place to stay

Beautiful hotel in a great location. The room was very comfortable and spacious. It overlooked the harbor and had a nice view of the coastline. The pool is pretty unique but it was raining and cool so I didn't go in. However, underneath it, there is a nice restaurant right by the water with good food and service. The breakfast was abundant and good. The only down side is that, if you have a car, you have to pay extra to park in their garage - equivalent to 12 hours in a metered space - and your pass expires at checkout time. So, if you get there later in the evening, it is less cost effective to park in their garage. However, if you don't, you get to get up at 0700 to go feed the meter. Seems that they could easily include parking in the cost of the room. But, past that, overall, I'm glad I stayed there.

I really enjoyed my stay and it was a quick and easy walk from the bus terminal in the center of the city to the hotel. Just walk along the main street on the seaside and up a small hill past a few restaurants and hotels and you're at the hotel in about 10 minutes and I did it easily with a broken suitcase and only 3 wheels. The pool is salt water which is fun and the saunas and steam room are great. The staff spoke great English and are so helpful and the breakfast was amazing on the lower floor where you can go right out to the seaside promenade. My view was spectacular with a nice balcony. I was on the 3rd floor which is actually one below the reception area so it was a little nosy above me so maybe ask for a floor lower or higher.

Great Hotel

Location: Has the most spectacular views and is in the best part of town to be in
The first thing about the hotel is the view that you get from the window, well worth the price alone. The hotel is located a 5 minute walk from the centre of Opatija, and is best done along the coast path. The staff were great and the food was fantastic, just don't go if your on a diet :). We travelled at the end of September and the weather was amazing and the summer crowds had gone making Opatija nice and quiet and enjoyable. I would recommend the hotel in a second and would book it if I returned
