Not holding living up to the standards of brandPosted Mar 26, 2015
Pros: Localtion close to conference center.
Cons: Drastic overhaul of minor details making a five star facility memorable.
Terribly poor and neglected service. By no means at five star standards. Four at most.

Nightmare on Walnut RoadPosted Jan 4, 2015
Cons: Fix the air conditioning, remove the carpets, fix the hot water, take responsibility for noise outside the hotel...better still: just move the hotel!
Our room was not ready at 3pm - the scheduled check in time for the hotel, so we were made to wait over an hour before it became ready only to find that we'd been downgraded from the executive floor room we'd booked and pre-paid for. On top of that the room smelt (we eventually identified the smell as possibly stale coffee soaked into the carpet) so we asked for a room change but with no executive floor rooms available, the only room they could give us involved a further downgrade which they assured us would only be for one night. We accepted this simply because the new room didn't smell. But during the night we found the air conditioning didn't cool the room & we were uncomfortable all night (the manager told us this was due to the hot tropical weather in Durban & nothing could be done about that). The next day we were upgraded to a suite, but once again the AC didn't work & the carpet had the same smell as the first room but after being in 3 rooms in 24 hours, we thought we would just try and manage it. The following day we were woken up at 6:15AM with the fair ground across the road testing out it's sound system. Despite several calls to the front desk who sent hotel security to investigate, this did not stop & the hotel finally told us that as the noise was not being made on their property they had no control over it. At this point we decided to cut our holiday short and come home to our quieter, cooler, cleaner home to get some well earned sleep.

Perfect for a family of fourPosted Dec 22, 2014
Pros: Very good breakfast, large room family friendly .
Cons: Accessories, for example complementary water bottles, wifi, sanitary items...
It's a bit distance from Durban beach, which we don't miss anyway. Very easy location to start driving around. The room is spacious, easily accommodating my family including a seven year and an one year old. Breakfast is brilliant.

Unprofessional staffPosted Dec 14, 2014 on Hotels.com
I was so disappointed with the service I got. It was my Fiance's birth day. I requested the lady at king suite reception to arrange something for her since we were landing in Durban at 22h00 and was not gonna have time to buy her presents. I asked the reception when I got there if they can arrange something since that lady did nothing. I was told the bar was closed. And I told them I was gonna pay for the expenses but they failed me. My stay was a nightmare will never set my foot at this hotel. The hotel staff is unprofessional. They ruined a very special day for some 1 I love.

Très bonne adresse, personnel sympathique. Buffet le soir au restaurant excellent. Le wifi payant est décevant pour un hotel de cette catégorie.

Functional business hotelPosted Oct 20, 2014
Pros: Stuff works OK
Cons: A bit shabby - needs an upgrade
Location: Close to the Durban Expo Centre, but not much else. Can't really walk to the beach - too far.
It was OK, but only just acceptable. Ok for a business trip but not much fun.
