Business Travel

Posted Dec 19, 2012 on Hotels.com
This is the second time I stay at this hotel - I like that it is clean and the rooms are comfortable, the staff is really friendly and always ready to help. The location is not ideal as it is not walking distance to anything. I have always used the hotel restaurant to dine in and the food has been good. This time around, I brought my gym clothes since walking around the area may be an issue for a female traveling alone. However, I found out that the hotel has no gym facilities since it is only rated 4 stars. Recommended for business travelers. A much better choice that the hotes in the downtown area.

Convenient stop while en-route to explore KZN

Posted Nov 7, 2012 on Hotels.com
The hotel has a very 'English' theme - so not very African. However, it is very comfortable, clean and the staff are excellent and very helpful. Excellent buffet dinner and breakfast - makes for a good overnight stop while en-route into KZN or exploring the area around Hilton itself.

Wonderful hotel

Posted Aug 28, 2012
Pros: the staff
Cons: Not all rooms had fridges in the room.
Location: High on the hill above Pietermaritzburg and near the N3 freeway
I was very impressed with the Protea Hliton, the staff were so friendly and helpful. It was a real pleasure to stay there.

Great hotel - a little far from town

Posted Aug 5, 2012 on Hotels.com
I stayed for four nights at this hotel. Staff was very attentive and helpful. The room was very comfortable. I like to unpack and there was no real closet or dresser. I managed. There was a safe in the room which is a bonus for me. The restaurant food was pretty good except for breakfast. I am a vegetarian and I thought their selection of fresh food was very limited and not the best. The breakfast is a buffet and I thought it expensive for what I got. There is no a la carte menu or breakfast in your room. Location wise - it is far from town so be read to drive on the N3 with large transport trucks and no road lights at night.
