Great Location - Disregard Naysayers!Posted Oct 15, 2013
Pros: Great amenities and safe, accessible surrounding neighborhood.
Cons: The pillow on my bed was very flat and not soft. If that is the case with all the rooms, they need new ones.
Location: Little yakitori place on the same block & a convenience store (which, in Japan, can offer a hearty meal). Also Higashi Hoganji Temple. Go at sunrise!
I had a great experience at this Comfort Inn and am baffled by all the reviewers complaining about the location. It is a safe fifteen-minute walk from Kyoto Station, a huge transportation hub, and a bus bound for the station stops across the street every ten minutes. There are also several temples, shrines, and museums in walking distance. The rooms are nothing extravagant but they're secure, clean, and comfortable. The staff checked me in speedily upon arrival and were helpful, warm, and spoke good conversational English. They also sell day passes for the bus, which was very convenient, and provide a fresh, tasty, and diverse breakfast buffet that offers both authentic Japanese fare and western staples. If I returned to Kyoto with twice the budget I had on this trip, I would probably still book the Comfort Inn Kyoto Gojo!

Clean, inexpensive hotel with a couple of perks.Posted Oct 29, 2012
Pros: Free breakfast & wi-fi.
Cons: Bed & pillow were hard.
Location: Location is convenient to the bus and different routes. Easy to get to on the bus from Kyoto Station. Not convenient to subway (just a longer walk).
If you're like me, and are less concerned about bells and whistles at your hotel, and just looking for a relatively nice, inexpensive place to lay your head at night (because you won't be spending much time there anyway), then this is a good hotel for you. The #9 bus from Kyoto station will take you almost directly there (then about a 5 min. walk down the street). The subway is quite a walk, especially if you have luggage. There are several bus stops in the area that will take you anywhere you need to go. Pick up a bus map at Kyoto station. The hotel sells daily bus passes which is a nice convenience. The hotel seems older and in need of renovations, but was clean. The rooms are small, which is to be expected in Japan. The bed and pillow were hard. They have a washer & dryer that I was able to use. It was a little expensive and the clothes weren't even close to dry after an hour. The hotel offers free wi-fi on all floors and free breakfast, both a bonus in Japan. The breakfast was very good & it was nice not to have that expense given the cost of meals in Japan. The staff was very pleasant & helpful. Overall, this hotel offered everything I was looking for: inexpensive, decent location, free food & wi-fi and a clean room to lay my head at night.
