Excellent hotelPosted Apr 25, 2013 on Hotels.com
The hotel location is great, close to many sites. For us, probably something within walking distance to Kyoto station would be better since we taken a train to Nara, Tokyo and a walking tour starting at the station and had to take a bus to get to the station. Breakfast was very good. Lot's of food and great choices. Highly recommend this hotel

Clean and the staffs are helpful although they can't speak English well. Easy access to shopping area and bus stop is just outside the hotel which make so convenient to travel around. Overall, I am happy with my stay.

Location is great. Right near everything you want. The service was professional and great. The rooms were old and in need of a renovation. The main downfall was the bedding. It had an old quilt that would never look clean (despite it pea ably being quite clean). When on holiday you want a nice, snuggly, clean and crisp doona. I don't know why they don't get plain white doonas. The hotel and contents are old and outdated but the location makes up for it.

Nice LocationPosted Oct 9, 2012
Pros: Location, Staff
Cons: Room, Price
The location is great, but the price is a little high. The rooms don't have individual climate control. The room was non-smoking, but I could smell smoke in the corridor. I couldn't see anything out the window, and when i opened it, there were dirty pigeons flying around. I forgot my phone charger, and I could use the one in the lobby for 200 yen. It didn't fully charge my phone though. I've been to other hotels that let me borrow their charger for free.

Great location, average comfortPosted Jul 17, 2012
A modest hotel located in prime location in Kyoto. The staff were very obliging to help us two Australians, one of whom knew reasonable Japanese. Extremely convenient location near shopping mall area, convenience stores, fantastic restaurants and about a 5-10 minute walk to the nearest major train station. We didn't mind the modest room (all you really need is the basics when you're out and about sightseeing all day) but the bed was extremely uncomfortable which was disappointing.

Hotel Alpha, Kyoto - good value and locationPosted Jun 11, 2012 on Hotels.com
excellent hotel that is very convenient. It is situated in the Central City area about a 5 minute walk from the Shiyakusho subway line. To get there from Kyoto station requires going north on the Karasuma line three stops to the Oike station and then transferring to the Tozai line going east for one stop. Athe subway is very easy to use. head south from the Shinyakusho station on Kawaramachi and look for a 7-11 store. The hotel is ABOVE this store. Turn into a narrow road immediately past the 7-11 and the entrance is right there. Kawaramachi is a major roads with many buses including the bus 205 that loops around the city and goes to Kinkakuji temple. Lots to do in the local area - short walks will take you to numerous good restaurants. It is a very fun area. The hotel is clean and the rooms are more than adequate . Staff were very helpful. Very good prices for the location. I would definitely go back to this hotel.

Close to shops, but...Posted Apr 17, 2012 on Hotels.com
Hotel is quite old. My room was surprisingly sizable. The window curtain remains closed 24x7 (facing next building). I specified non-smoking, they gave me smoking. Having said that, staff were very polite, helpful and professional. It is close to shops. If catching the train there from Kyoto station, will require one transfer.
