Staff was super NiCe. They guided us to temples to visit, rented out bikes and even printed out the bullet train schedule for our departure the morning after.
However, try not to use the comforter unless u're 100% sure its clean. I got too many bed bug bites, and the rashes became uncomfy when i went to an Onsen

Great Hostel within short walking distance to Kyoto Train Station. We had 1 day (Oct 11) to see Kyoto. The Hostel staff is very knowledgeable about Kyoto's historical sites, the transportation system on how to get to the sites, and planning out an itinerary. Was recommended by the staff and purchased the 1 day Kyoto City Bus pass for 500 Yen at the Hostel front desk (since the 1 way fare was 230 Yen)...rode the bus 5 times amongst the sites, to dinner and back to the Hostel--my wife and I saved enough on bus fare to purchase a meal and get to the sites that we wanted to see.

Great value, pretty good location, friendly staff, decent wifi, no keys (code to enter room). Good enough for travelers who just want to sleep. They give out bread for breakfast too (and free massage chair).

Had a nice room on top floor, view to Kyoto tower, vg shower etc but bathroom a bit small
Good desk and sitting space. Very good staff, left my bag in morning before checking in and they had bought it up to the room before I got back in afternoon. They gave me a free ticket to the Kyoto tower and bike hire was free. Staff all had nice personalities and were very helpfull... I did not eat there

We stayed at Hotel Grand Bach for five nights recently. At first we found it difficult to find the hotel. Even though it is located on a major shopping street in Kyoto our taxi driver did not know the hotel and the address of hotel was not clear to him. The entrance to the hotel is (behind L'Occitane shop) with access from a side lane. It looks fairly new and it is a very clean modern hotel. The room is small if you have lots of luggage. The hotel provides you with free espresso coffee and tea from afternoon till late at night. The room has a wonderful shower. Free wi-fi internet is provided in the room but beware if you have an old device (eg iPhone 4) with old system it will not work.

A modern japanese ryokan. Nice tattame rooms in an excellent location. Service was first class, attentive helpful and personable. I loved the way they helped us with instructions on wearing yukata, hardly rocket science but sweet.
Ordered taxis arrived on time. The public bath was also good and relaxing. Also nice to have our own minitubs as well.
We have stayed in old ryokan, ultra modern hotels and business hotels in Kyoto and this one suited us the best.

Off the beaten path, this house is great for a family of four. It is in a great location for food, access to subway yet quiet. It is an eco-house, with many impressive energy saving details. As well, we arrived late and the the fridge was stocked with food, so we didn't have to go out late at night. It was a truly local experience. We loved it.
