Nice traditional Japanese style hotelPosted Oct 20, 2013
Pros: Breakfast experience Clean room Friendly staff
Cons: No Internet Access in the room Expensive (paid > SGD 500 for a Saturday stay)
Location: Kyoto Imperial Palace Gion District
The room is big and the staff will make the bed/remove the bed for you at the right times. The breakfast is buffet style and is mostly Japanese food. The taste is not bad. Kyoto Imperial Palace and Gion is within walking distance but not exactly very near from the hotel. There is no wifi or wired Internet access in the room. One has to go down to first floor lobby to access Internet. Their public bath is not big but the experience is good since there aren't many people using it when I use it...

Good but overpricedPosted Apr 12, 2013 on Hotels.com
We stayed here because it was the only place available at the time we made our reservations, and we were looking forward to a more traditional Japanese experience. The staff was very pleasant and the hotel was overall fine, but it is overpriced for what you get. For example, the bath towels were very thin, small, and rough, and only 1 per person. There was no shower, only a small bathtub in our room. The room itself had kind of an awkward layout. But again, the staff was very kind and helpful, and we had a nice stay overall.

Appearances can be deceptivePosted Apr 6, 2013 on Hotels.com
So, when you walk into the lobby you could be forgiven for thinking that you've walked into the 1970s, if the carpet pattern is anything to go by. But beyond that this is a really nice mix of old and new Ryokan, with traditional rooms with modern conveniences. Ideal for seeing the sights of Kyoto with great transport links nearby - buses 5 mins walk, trains 10 mins walk and Kyoto station about 20 mins by bys - and the staff were really helpful and ensured we were well looked after. Drinks are a tad pricey - GBP3.50 for a coffee !! - but that was the only negative. Would stay there again for sure.
