We stayed at a machiya converted to a ryokan for 2 nights. I specifically picked a room with western style beds (vs futon on tatami). The place was exquisitely charming. The staff was extremely warm, friendly and helpful. We opted for the breakfast which was prepared carefully - we enjoyed it immensely. The location was a few blocks from the Kyoto train station but very quiet. My only suggestion is to add a bidet to our toilet - I've come to appreciate bidets since I stayed in a regular Tokyo hotel prior to Kyoto. I highly recommend this property and will stay here again next time I visit Kyoto!
I liked the location, cleanliness, friendliness of the staff. Room small but well appointed.
The tatami mat could have been a bit bigger, breakfast was very basic, especially the Continental option, one slice of toast, but unlimited coffee!
Still, I would go back, do some more self catering. There is a fridge in the room.
This authentic Ryokan provided us with a true Japanese experience. It did not disappoint. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The location is
perfect in a quiet residential neighbourhood close to many sights and public transportation to visit sights further afield.
Very modern take on a traditional concept. Staff is very poliet and friendy and they all speak excellent english. Close to lots of restaurants, 2 temples and kyoto station
This property was amazing. The staff is incredibly welcoming, friendly, and genuinely want to help. They also equip you with stuff to do and places to eat in the hood. And they called us a cab to the train station to make our lives easier. Breakfast was good as well. Would absolutely recommend to my friends.
Paid in advance. Was very expensive. Booking states all fees included but when arrived at the hot we have to pay a local fee. Not sure why Hotels.com stated that all fees where included when it wasnt. If we knew this we would not have booled this hotel.
A nice ryokan style inn with around 25 rooms, general hardware and software are quite good, breakfast also nice, only negative point is the location , which is a bit remote to any major attraction or even public transportation station
Very nice stay with lovely welcoming staff and great facilities with a Japanese feel. A great area as well - very east to travel to other areas too via train. Would recommend!
The front desk had excellent English and was very knowledgeable about the city and how to get around. The breakfast (esp. the Japanese option) was excellent.
never stayed here. had no record of this reservation and while in Kyoto received an e-mail telling me i hadn't checked in. responded immediately apologizing for any misunderstanding and they just put me down as a no-show and billed me for 4 nights! i'm trying to survive on a meager pension and can't afford this!
A beautiful and quiet place to stay a little out of the way in Kyoto. Within walking distance of two beautiful temples, and a 40 minute walk to Gion. The service here was excellent, and I highly recommend the traditional Japanese breakfast. Each item was explained to us as we sat down and the food was very good (but you better like fish!). Traditional Japanese rooms are simple tatami and provided a tranquil and relaxing stay.
It's very good experience. The hotel is close to Nishi Honganji (a temple), and even if you want to walk to the hotel from Kyoto station, it's also easy to (which I did, walking around 15 min). Very quiet and lovely neighborhood.
Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly, I love the breakfast they cooked, Yummy!!
Room was beautifully designed with a Japanese tatami and a japanese garden. I did enjoy sitting on my cusion on the floor of the garden, drinking sencha (japanese tea) .
When the earthquake happened, I heard the broadcasting system saying in Japanese that "this is an earthquake". It would be better if other instructions can be added into the broadcast, such as should we stay in the room or evacuate, and also in English if possible.
Overall love hotel and would love to revisit in the future.
Great location that was easy working distance from Kyoto station. Stayed in the traditional Japanese room which was small but comfortable. Staff were very welcoming and accomodating throughout the stay. Highly recommend. Would have loved for the property to have included an Onsen to fully complete the authentic Japanese stay.
Our Sukiya Style room was perfect and exactly same as shown on photos on web pages with a small garden. Very good size, clean and comfortable. A complete Zen. 5 minutes walking distance to the bus strop which takes us directly Gion and other connections. One stop to Kyoto station but I preferred to walk. Quite street with a museum (Ryukoku Museum) and a very close temple which I couldn't find time to visit.
Hidden away in the little streets of Kyoto but within walking distance of Kyoto station, the Imperial Palace and many other Shrines and places to visit.
The place was quiet, immaculate and staff including kitchen staff were warm and accommodating eagerly wishing to be of service to its guests. Breakfast, wonderful!
If you're keen on Ryokan style, I truly recommend this little treasure. Always pleasing to return to after a busy day.
Thank you to all the staff for making our stay memorable. We hope to stay there again in future.

Blend of traditional and modern comfort. Excellent location, great food nearby, very safe area, close to buses, 1km from Kyoto Station, easy walk. Staff so helpful with advice on transport, tourism etc, Excellent breakfast. We stayed 5 nights, LOVED it. Go and try it, it’s a unique experience off the beaten path. Beds are very comfortable, small bathroom but contains everything..
Great concept for those looking for a ryokan experience, but with the amenities of a modern hotel. You sleep on tatami mats, have tea on the floor, but at the end of the day, still have your own bathroom to wash up in.
The only downside is its location right by the Honangi Temple. Great to see the temple, but the hotel sits in a very residential part of town without a large assortment of restaurants and it gets quiet at night. On a map, it sits between Kyoto station and one of the main blvds, thus you can walk to either, but neither are right outside your door. We ended up needing 2 bus connections to get to the main parts of town. We just had to factor that into our day, and we couldn’t just pop back to the room and back out.
We had an enjoyable stay though and would still recommend
Close to the station, we enjoyed our stay sleeping on futons in a room overlooking g the courtyard. The staff were always helpful advising on how best to find our way and arranging a tea ceremony for us
