“Very Conveniently Located”

We stayed at the New Miyako Hotel as an extension of a tour and found the location extremely convenient. It is directly accross from the train and bus stations and that made it very easy to move around on the trains as well as the subway and busses. There is a wonderful mall right next door and in the train station which provided plenty of options for food and shopping. The hotel itself was very nice and the staff extremely helpful. The room by Japan standards was large and comfortable. We had multiple options for breakfast but opted to eat at the small bakeries due to the cost. We did order room service one evening and felt it was not worth the money, the food was nothing special. Overall we would recommend this hotel for anyone who want a convenient locaion in Kyoto for running around and seeing all the sights.

Shopping
For a fun time visit the Nishiki Food Market (a short walk from the Shijo subway station). It is full of wonderful shops and restaurants. While there keep waling to the Teramachi-kyogoku Shopping Arcade, found some good things to purchase there for gifts.

“Great hotel in a convenient location”

I enjoyed the New Miyako Hotel very much. The staff was great--very polite and considerate. Their English isn't perfect, but they work very hard to understand any concerns or questions and address them satisfactorily. The concierge was particularly great; she gave us a great recommendation for a sushi place in Gion, gave me information for our day trip to Nara, and tracked down shops at which I could buy second-hand kimonos or cheap souvenirs (whatever I needed).

Area recommendations
Gion is a terrific neighborhood to spend time in; it's the old geisha district, so it has lots of shops, great side streets, and good restaurants. And the Arashiyama section is wonderful. It's outside the well-beaten track, but it's definitely worth going to. The bamboo forest is lovely, the shrines are peaceful, and Tenryu Temple is fantastic.

“Already planning our next trip to Kyoto.”

Our only problem was we had to leave after 13 days. We were assisted many times by locals. One man had his wife drive the car to the train so he could take us directly to our destination instead of a 3rd subway. A woman helped us find a bank to exchange money near the flea market. It took her 3 tries and 45 minutes. We shared photos of our dogs, grandchildren, gardens and quilt and made instant friends. We took photos of all who helped us. It is so easy to travel by train or subway or bus. On our one rainy day we took the JR to Shigo and walked underground to stores and the Arcade. I have been to Kyoto 5 times and on this trip found even more "new" experiences. Our side trip to Ohara was a winner...gardens, shrines, good food, good shopping. I am ready to return. The textile markets were a highlight for quilters and those who sew wearable art. You can not say "arigato" enough and it was evident locals appreciated our efforts.

Area recommendations
Near the train station is very convenient. Our next trip we hope to stay at the Westin Miyako near many gardens and shrines and use the shuttle to the New Miyako across the street from Kyoto Station and the very important Seven Eleven with the ATM. We like the convenient transportation.

“Great base for Kyoto”

This is quite a basic hotel with good staff. What really makes this hotel a good choice is the location right opposite the station and shopping mall. This provides very convenient travel and a very good choice of restaurants.

“Location is great but room was small”

The room was a lot smaller than what we thought it was going to be but the staff always had it clean by the time we got back. The concierge desk was very helpful and answered any questions we had. We didn't eat at the hotel but Kyoto station has so many options to choose from. The location is the best since you can get anywhere in the city by walking across the street.

Dining
Kyoto station has many restaurants with great food. The best place to go for breakfast is Honeybee cafe, it is located in Kyoto station on the 10th floor. They have the best waffles ever! Try the berry and yogurt waffle with the orange juice and mango smoothie.

“Great Place To Stay In Kyoto”

The New Miyako Hotel is across the street from the Kyoto Train Station, giving you convenient access to the shingansen, many railway lines and numerous breakfast and meal choices. Several convenience stores and a grocery store provided more choices for meals and snacks. From the hotel it was very easy to get to many of the famous sites in Kyoto, either by foot or by train. The Bell Desk was also had a helpful map, and the concierge made some good suggestions for places to eat away from the train station. Our room was large enough for two people and two suitcases, and was always clean when we returned. Unlike some other hotels, the temperature controls were easy to access and change, so our stay in the room was comfortable. The refrigerator in the room was also large enough to hold breakfast and some drinks, allowing to save some meal money, as eating in Japan is not always cheap. The hallways and public gathering areas were also kept clean, even with the large number of guests that the hotel seems to attract. A comfortable and convenient place that was also good value for our money!
