I spent two wonderful weeks at this hotel. The room was very spacious and clean. The service was topnotch. Can't beat the price or location.

excellent hotel - will also stay at.

Pros: location, 4-star+ rooms, price was reasonable for our time frame
Cons: concierge could be more helpful .
Location: located south side across the street slightly east of Kyoto Station. We used a 7 day JR rail pass.
Rooms renovated from a year ago and are excellent for comfort, size and cleanliness. Location is excellent and pricing for us was reasonable for 4-star+ hotel. Hotel is located at south end of the Kyoto station. I will stay again. I do not eat lavishly so hotel restaurants have ot review. Typically ship luggage ahead and hotel vendor is excellent.

Fairly average hotel
Posted Jan 27, 2013
Pros: Easy access to the subway.
Cons: The room was far too small, particularly for two people (which the room was intended for).
Location: Good location for subway access, but mediocre for tourist activities, eating, and other social activities.
So, my overall rating of three stars is deceptive because I don't think you can really rate a hotel on the above criteria alone. The staff were very friendly and I can't complain about the service or the cleanliness of the room. But the room was quite tight, particularly for two people with average amounts of luggage (1 backpack and suitcase each); we were practically tripping over our things and each other. The internet was ok, though a bit slow by normal standards in Japan. The location was convenient in terms of subway access but there wasn't much to do around the area (aside of some small eateries and the occasional bar); this is just something good to know, rather than a problem with the hotel itself. The hotel is also very close to some train tracks, so there is some noise, which may disturb some people. Again, it was by no means a bad hotel, but I felt it was just ok relative to other hotels I've stayed in at the same price point, though by no means bad.

Located close to main train station.

The hotel is located at a walking distance to Kyoto station. We stayed at the South wing of the hotel which seem to be more modern than the rest of the hotel.

Location: Perfect location for traveling from JR Kyoto station
Was a fantastic place to stay. Located directly across from JR Kyoto station is perfect. Staff are lovely and very helpful. Rooms were spacious and clean. Couldn't recommend it more highly. Will definitely be recommending to everyone. Thanks New Miyako :)

Nice Room, Close to Station
Posted Jan 19, 2013
Pros: Nice large room, clean, close, cool air conditioning!
Cons: No improvement needed.
Location: Kyoto Station with 100 places to eat, shopping, and trains to anywhere. To-ji shrine is a 15 minute walk to the southwest.
The hotel is on the South side of Kyoto Station, which is a little away from the excitement, which can be nice. The "new" side of the station is opposite on the North side with Kyoto Tower above all the action. We traveled from the station by train and subway all over town, so the New Miyako location was very convenient. There are also many places to eat and shop inside the station mall. We walked to To-ji Shrine (the 5 story pagoda) from the hotel/station in about 15 minutes. The room was the largest we had of 3 western-style hotels where we stayed on our trip. The hotel feels very new and all the newest modern Japanese hotel attributes (high tech bathroom, excellent air conditioning, comfortable bed, etc.). The staff spoke great English and were very helpful to us. I recommend you visit Kyoto Station at night to see the animated staircase that starts on about 3F on the west side of the station (on the roof of the Setan department store). The staircase is 10 stories high with LEDs on the stair risers that display colorful animations of Japanese imagery and nature scenery, as well as text. It was a unique artistic/architectural touch on the beautiful station.

Great location - centre of action for Kyoto tours
Posted Jan 18, 2013
This is a great hotel with top location close to JR Kyoto Station (3 minutes walk). We used this hotel as a base for several tours in the Kyoto and Nara areas. Breakfast queues are very busy as this hotel is the base for many tourists and organised tours (but this only adds to the interest of hustle and bustle during the stay). Most of our tours departed from the Sunrise desk right in the hotel foyer. We would stay here again, of course!

Convenient efficient hotel
Posted Jan 8, 2013
Pros: Staff helpfulness (especially housekeeping)
Cons: Poor Internet connectivity
Location: Adjacent to Kyoto Station
The New Miyako is very convenient for rail travellers and those using city buses to navigate around Kyoto. The lobby often has the feel of a train station itself; but the rooms are well equipped and comfortable (especially on the higher premium floors). The wifi, although free, is extremely slow and uneven.
