“Will definitely return”

This is a lovely hotel. Location is excellent, very close to JR train line. They offer a free shuttle from the train station. Deluxe Rooms are clean and spacious. Walking distance to Higashi Honwangji Temple. Also walking distance to great shopping plaza Aeon.

Area recommendations

Fushimi Inari to see the 10,000 Red Torii and the beautiful shrine. Arashiyama is like old Japan. Kiyomizu Temple, the grounds are just magnificent, the temple is gorgeous. Kinkakuji Golden Pavillion is a beautiful sight.

“Hotel with good service and polite staffs”

The room we stayed is newly renovated and is very clean. Lots of restaurants are near the Kyoto JR station, which means ~5 -10 minutes of walk! Hotel shuttle is until 9pm.

“WiFi Dead Zone”

The hotel was excellent except that there was no WiFi access in the hotel room or lobby. I only travel with an iPad now so the wired internet connection in the room was of no use. It isn't an issue of cost, it's really just access.

“Good Location”

This hotel was a short walk to Kyoto Station where we could conveniently catch a train, bus or taxi to the various tourist spots. This hotel even has a shuttle bus to/from the station so if you have luggage or lots of purchases it is a convenient way to get to the hotel. They need free WI FI! Free WI-FI helps us locate more places to visit/shop and thus more money into their economy.

“Good value for money in Kyoto”

Rihga Royal in Kyoto is located walking distance (10 minutes) from Central Station in Kyoto, which is the main hub of all public transport in this traditional Japanese city. If one cannot walk, the hotel runs a convenient shuttle service, departing from the back of the station building. Cost is very reasonable for Japan and rooms are fairly small but comfortable. Personnel are extremely polite and helpful, as in most other places in Japan.

Area recommendations

Central station neighborhood is most convenient because all buses (main affordable mode of public transportation) depart from here.

What to pack

Make sure you take USD or EU as foreign currency, when you visit Japan. These currencies can be exchanged for Yen at automatic tellers in most banks. Visa/Master card cash withdrawal is only available from the central post office.

“Must pay for the pool”

Great service! Condition is best described as well-used. They charge an arm and a let to use the pool - which was a surprise to us, and a grave disappointment for our kids!!

“Good value, Good location”

The hotel is a great value and has a convienent location by means of its complimentary train station shutlle. Not the most up to date hotel but certainly clean and well staffed.

Area recommendations

We stayed by the JR Kyoto rail station and for travel throughout the area either by bus or train it is the best location

Must see

Take a side trip to NARA. The temples and shrines with the backdrop of wild deer walking all over the city is a site to behold

“Good choice near Kyoto station”

Large, comfortable room by Japanese standards . Well-appointed hotel walking distance from Kyoto station. And there is a shuttle as well. No Wifi - paid, wired internet. Bed is a little stiff - but comfortable enough. Electronic toilet seats marked in Japanese (little scared to try all the features!) I would try to reserve there first next time.

Hotels around Kyoto station are convenient for train travel, food, shopping and guaranteed taxi availability.

What to pack

Umbrella - for walking to/from trains, handkerchiefs - some bathroooms don't have paper towels to save on waste.

Must see

Much to see - the train station itself is most impressive. Golden Pavilion, Nijo Castle, Sanjusangendo temple are all worth the time.

“good hotel”

This hotel was very well run. They went out of their way to meet whatever needs you had, very service oriented.

Area recommendations

This hotel is located near the Kyoto Train Station, which I would high recommend. The station is really the hub for all of Kyoto, great shopping and restaurants. If you have teenage girls they will love the fashion of Asia and will want to shop for clothes!

When to go

First 2 weeks of April were beautiful with cherry blossoms.
