An authentic Japanese jewel!

We really enjoyed our stay and loved the surrounding neighbourhood. The rooms are clean, spacious quiet and very zen like. We were with our 2 adult children and got a kick out of all sleeping together on very comfortable mats on the floor under cozy down comforters. We opted for our meals to be included. You have to be adventurous! Everything was beautifully presented and dinner was a multi course extravaganza. They include a menu so you do know what you are eating. It is an incredible experience The staff is polite and professional and went above and beyond. I became quite ill and ended up having to go to the hospital for antibiotics. One of the staff Naomi accompanied me and stick handled the whole process. Her English is excellent and I was so appreciative of her kindness. This was Japanese hospitality at its finest

BE SURE TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE STAYING IN A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE INN. FOR WESTERNERS, ONE NIGHT IS ENOUGH. BUT THE EXPERIENCE IS GREAT.

Authentic stay in Japan

Posted Oct 24, 2011 on Hotels.com
Sakanoue was exacty how we picture a Japanese Ryokan would be and it was very convenient to all the major sights in traditional Japan, all within walking distance. Stayed there for 3 nights and had our fill of Kaiseki cusine every morning and eery evening with tea and snacks in the afternoon. Only wish was that the Futon bed could have been a little bit more thicker for comfort. It was really hard sleeping on the floor and we were sometimes too stiff to get up in the morning.
