Good as a budget hotel. Accessible by subway.

Posted Jul 18, 2014 on Hotels.com
I wanted a budget hotel for a one-night visit to Kyoto, something that was accessible to public transportation, doesn't cost an arm and a leg, but still provides enough comfort for the day (air conditioning, safe neighborhood, good breakfast, etc.). This hotel lived up to all of those expectations. Now, there are some sacrifices to make with budget hotels. With this one, the single room is very small and felt a lot like a college dorm room, but without ANY closet space. There is no safe in the room. I was grateful to have my own toilet and shower! But the room itself was comfortable so I am not complaining, knowing that I picked it because of price. The breakfast was actually surprisingly good and I recommend getting it because there aren't many restaurants around. The hotel is about a 5 minute walk from a subway stop (and the subway connects to the train station) so it's very easy and cheap to get to the hotel from there. You can rent a bike from the hotel, BUT I DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT if you want to go to Gion. It is too crowded in Gion that I was cursing myself for having to push my bike through narrow sidewalks with lots of people around. Leave the bike and rely on subway and buses while sightseeing in Kyoto. The hotel staff were very helpful and spoke English. They even kept my bag for a few hours after I checked out until I was ready to go back to the train station. OVERALL: I was happy with the hotel considering that it was a budget hotel.

A CHARMING RELAXING HOTEL IN KYOTO

Posted May 19, 2014 on Hotels.com
At first glance this hotel says "come in and relax" KYOTO is so historic and there is so much to see and the bus system is so easy and comfortable. You are near the bus stop and near the easy subway system. The rooms are clean and overall OK but the beds are VERY hard so just know that. It is so charming and in a way quaint. We enjoyed this hotel. Breakfast is delightful but buy a breakfast token a day in advance to save some money.

Pros: The staff were so friendly, the hotel was large, the room was fairly big for Japan and there were so many facilities! Great location too!
Really loved this hotel. Stayed in 5 different hotels during our trip to Japan and this one was the best!

Great hotel near the palace

Posted May 10, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location! and also the price is good as well, that's why I decided to stay one more night there. Also the staff are very helpful.
Location: Located four subway stops away from the Kyoto train station, 3 min walk to the palace, 10 min to the castle.
I stayed at the Palace Hotel for two nights, it was very good and I loved the location being just beside the palace, the castle is also within walking distance whereas other sights could be reached easily with public transportation. The rooms are also big and comfortable. I will choose it again next time I come to Kyoto!

Nice place. But not memorable.

Posted Feb 2, 2014
It was overall a fine experience. Probably would look for something in a better location closer to Kyoto station next time but not too bad. It was right on the subway line so ok. Things I liked; good lunch special for ¥10 you get a four coarse meal with tea. They had a quartet playing in the lobby one night and that was enjoyable. Bed was pretty comfy. Things that I didn't really enjoy; we were told we would have wifi in our rooms but it was only available in the lobby. Check in isn't untill 2:00p whereas check out is 11:00. I had gotten used to wabaki being provided in every other hotel we stayed at in Japan but there were none there. Other then that staff was friendly.
