Great hotelPosted Jul 29, 2013
Cons: Having a convenience shop within the hotel - milk, alcohol etc.
Great hotel, right next to a station. The gym and pool are cheap to use (still not used to having to pay for these facilities though!) compared to other hotels of the same stature. We were budget travellers but were still able to get a cheaply priced room here, just stay clear of the hotel resturants and eat out in town or have bento boxs from the convenience store down the road.

Exceptional Luxurious ExperiencePosted Jul 17, 2013
Location: 20 minute FREE shuttle to Kyoto Station, close to Gion District, Museum
This was my fifth stay in Kyoto, and the Westin Miyako Kyoto certainly made it the best! I previously chose nice, standard hotels close to Kyoto Station mainly for convenience. The complimentary shuttle service from the hotel to Kyoto Station provided this convenience, but at such an upgraded, luxurious level of service and accommodations! The staff (front desk, concierge, managers on duty, bell desk, housekeepers) was genuinely hospitable (which is understandably the norm for Japan, but this was a cut above!). It was also nice to see that they are practicing conservation of resources in a way that doesn't make you feel like you are NOT being pampered. The Expedia price was remarkable as well. I will definitely stay at this hotel on my next trip.

great hotel for a traditional Japanese style roomPosted Jul 8, 2013 on Hotels.com
The staff was very helpful and friendly. I had no problem speaking English with them. I really enjoyed my stay.

Close to Philosopher's WalkPosted Jul 8, 2013
We have stayed in the Westin Myako several times and have enjoyed it each time. It is close to the Philosopher's Walk and the free shuttle to the train station makes it very easy to travel. The only small problem is that this time we could hear noise from the adjoining room, but this stopped relatively early on in the evening.

Lovely hotel in Kyoto, very helpful staffPosted Jun 27, 2013
Pros: We really liked everything about the hotel: location, WiFi in the rooms and the lobby, subway station next door, free shuttle service, helpful staff.
We stayed 5 days in Kyoto at the Westin Miyako Hotel. It is an older hotel, but is thoroughly modern, classy, beautiful and comfortable with an extremely helpful staff. The concierge helped us with everything: restaurants, train schedules, mailing postcards home, location of anything we wanted to see. The rooms were well appointed, beds wonderful, bathrooms amazing! It is located away from the city center, but near temples and other tourist sites. The zoo is also nearby. There are a number of restaurants nearby, a variety of kinds and prices. There is a subway stop immediately outside the hotel, too. Very convenient. They have a free shuttle to the train station that stops at other locations along the way. Great hotel for a Kyoto visit.

Pretty generic American-style hotelPosted Jun 23, 2013 on Hotels.com
We switched our hotel booking to this place at the last minute because the price dropped. Clean, comfortable, and good size rooms. But it could have been a Westin hotel anywhere. There was essentially nothing about it that gave it any sort of Japanese feel. Maybe that's what some Americans want when they travel, but I would have preferred to stay somewhere else. Close to metro and walkable to some sites. Shuttle to Kyoto Station was handy. Be careful: like most giant hotels, they will try to get money out of you any way they can (e.g. taking luggage to your room), which was not the case anywhere else we stayed in Japan. Also, if you plan on using the pool, note that there is a surcharge.
