Unassuming gemPosted Oct 5, 2013
Don't let the bland concrete exterior put you off. The hotel is part of an appartment block starting on the fourth floor. A friendly manager and staff were very welcoming and accomodating. Room had simple but solid furniture and decor and was spotlessly clean. Stained timber theme throughout the hotel. Good location near to rail station and a few minutes from old town. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Great value for money.

Pros: Very friendly staff, happy to give out information
Cons: No drinking glass in bathroom
Location: Good value for money easy and safe 10 min walk to Old Town and about 5 mins to train station or airport bus stop.
Only 1 night but the staff made it easy for us to get a good grasp of how to get around easily.

Great value, friendly staff and peaceful hotelPosted Jul 27, 2013
Location is great - it is 10 min walk to the old city with plenty of shopping opportunities around the hotel. Save yourself from the old, noisy and hazzle part of the city...

Hotel reception is on the 4th floor and then the rooms are above. All very nicely decorated, clean and modern. Reception staff helpful, nice lounge area with table games and a computer for guest use. The hotel itself is slightly outside the old city center but easily reached by foot with some nice bars and restaurants around the local area and a handy mini supermarket (24h) directly opposite, but beware apparently local law forbids the off-sales of alcohol after 10pm. Nice big baths.

The best place I stayed in SpainPosted Oct 24, 2012 on Hotels.com
Pension Mexico is located in the University district of Santiago, several blocks from the touristy and expensive Old Town. It was quiet with a well appointed new (recently remodeled) room with a comfortable bed. My host Olaf (a German who speaks both Spanish and English) was invaluable. Always ready to give me the information I needed. His boss and the manager, Juan, was terrific. I had many questions about the economic crisis after 5 weeks in Spain and Juan was a God-send. During my many weeks in Spain I stayed at a slew of hotels, but none as good as Mexico. When I came to leave, the train station was only a 5 minute walk away. Thanks Olaf and Juan.

Small and close to train station with good ratesPosted Jun 13, 2012
Pros: Good service desk personnel
Cons: Single room opening only onto air shaft
Location: Excellent for transportation but a little remote from major sights
While it is a little remote and downhill from the casco antiguo, the Mexico is convenient to the train station in a mixed residential and commercial area. It is close to many services and only a 20 minute walk to the much noisier area around the cathedral, the Obradorio and the touristy confines of the old city. Breakfast is at a good cafeteria next door, and the nearby area has lots of places to eat along with a suermercado across the street. Service desk personnel are exemplary and multi-lingual. Rooms are smallish, and singles only open onto air shafts, but they are well-appointed and maintained. At current prices, the hotel is a bargain and is one I am likely to chose again should I use RENFE train service to get to or from Santiago de Compostela.

Superb!Posted Sep 21, 2011 on Hotels.com
I just finished hiking the Camino and wanted an economical hotel in Santiago: Mexico PR was perfect, very quiet, 15minutes to the cathedral, 10 minutes from the old city and 2 minutes from the new city. And the service was extremely friendly and accomodating, I would highly recommend staying at mexico PR!
