“2 adults, 3 little kids. good stay, but the room needed updating...and a few other minor negatives.”
We had a few minor snags in our stay at the La Crosse Holiday Inn, though after a weekend of fun, we could easily overlook everything. honestly, we had stayed at the Radisson across the street 5 years earlier. when we return, i'd consider the Radisson a bit more strongly. that said, our stay at the Holiday Inn wasn't terrible by any stretch. here are some thoughts:
the room needed help:
• wallpaper peeling off the walls near the ceiling and especially in the corners
• tub drain stuck in the open position, we'd have to fill the tub with the shower to bathe our kids
• distressed bathroom sink
• weak (but clean) and short-corded hair dryer (to be expected somewhat)
• 27" (+/-) tube TV.
• super slow wifi.
general negatives:
• parking is a gamble. we chose not to buy the $3/day guest permit in the mostly-attached 12-hour public ramp. no tickets or tows...whew!
• terrible food at the restaurant (Ebeneezers) on the main level---better Italian at Perkins. much better.
• the pool seemed small for a hotel that size, but it was never crowded.
• the building and hotel are surely old. while most of it looked very nice, some updates were overdue.
general positives:
• friendly staff
• great, sturdy baby crib
• NEVER heard anything through our walls---super solid and QUIET
• rooms include a mini-fridge (great for left overs)---but no microwave or safe
• only 1-3 blocks from everything we wanted to do in La Crosse
• good deal
• large touch screen map/attraction display in the lobby
Area recommendations
Downtown. Amazing restaurants!! Big Al's Pizzeria---best in the midwest. Fayze's restaurant and bakery---best breakfast anywhere. Children's Museum---three floors, traveling exhibits, tons of fun. The Mississippi river and park---gorgeous.
i love this town. i play here once in a while with a band, and when we're in town, i'm sure to bring my family. the streets are small, and filled with unique shops, bars and restaurants. historic, totally unique, and very clean.
