A Good Value for a Stay in La Grande

Posted Aug 13, 2014
Pros: Good value, friendly staff.
Cons: Pool re-coat, carpets clean but getting wrinkled from age and use.
Location: Denney's in the same parking area for a quick meal.
Stayed here four years ago, and returned for a night this August on the way home. Although an older place, it is well kept and clean. The room was clean and no bad smells. Nice to see that the owners care about this place as it is still kept up four years after my first visit. Pool is due for a re-coat but the water was clean. The hot tub was very clean (water had a good sparkle and no foam!) Not the Ritz but a good value. Very pleasant front desk staff.

Very disappointing

Posted Jul 21, 2014
Pros: The pool, which we did go in early Saturday evening, was warm and pleasant. The door we went to 1st was broken; we had to go to the far door to get in
Cons: Better air system to keep smoke contained. More soundproofing. Instructions by alarm clock. More sympathetic desk staff.
Location: Great location, just off highway. Denny's in same asphalt, with gas and other food very close.
I originally booked with this hotel to visit my father-in-law before he died, and as it was Elgin rodeo weekend, only two hotels showed available rooms as it was Elgin Rodeo weekend. 5 days before my husband and I were to leave, his father died, and I had to reschedule to the next weekend for the funeral. I had more choices then, and wish I had just canceled with this and booked with another! The non-smoking room was near the smoking rooms, and the hallway outside our room REEKED, and the room had plenty of smoke smell. As we weren't going to be there much more than to sleep, we didn't try to change rooms. Running water from other rooms was very loud, including a running toilet that wouldn't stop. The breakfast was cold, except for toasted bagels and such, so we went out. Saturday, around 6:10 AM, the alarm in the next room went off, and kept going. As it wasn't ours, we didn't realize it was the alarm clock (although it was loud enough to have been) and thought it was the fire alarm. We quickly dressed and grabbed important stuff and rushed outside, and no one was out there. We returned, the alarm finally stopped, and we rushed to shower and pack, as we'd had it. When we mentioned the alarm to staff at checkout, the guy explained the patron next door hadn't known how to turn the alarm off, but made no apology for our rude awakening. I will try another motel next time I visit.

Never again!

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: Location...that's it.
Cons: Burn it down and start over.
The entire hotel smells like an ashtray. It has a run-down feel and desperately needs to be updated. The fact that they charge $80/night is obscene. This should be a $55/night hotel at best. There was thick dust all over the floor lamp. The pillow cases are marked with "firm" and "soft", nice, right? But the housekeeping staff couldn't be bothered to actually put the correct pillows in the corresponding pillow cases. The only redeeming quality of this place is it's location. Seriously....AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

Location was great. Hotel needs some upgrades.

Posted Jul 14, 2014
Pros: Location, location, location. Staff was excellent and did a great job. Front desk to service help were great. The spa & Pool were nice.
Cons: Carpets, air conditioners, larger bathrooms, updated TV's and an additional mirror in room outside of the bathroom.
Location: Restaurants and gas stations close by, as well as the main highway on and off ramps.
Very busy weekend as several events going on in the area. Staff was excellent and very accommodating. Room rate through expedia was affordable. Would not stay there again if we had to pay the hotel rate. Too pricy for what you get. Facilities need major upgrades from hall and room carpets to air conditioners so high on the wall you have to get a chair to adjust the temps. Great location that met our needs. I'm sure it was a great hotel when built but can really use an overhaul.

I needed to stay in La Grande to be close to the university. While there are quite a few choices not many are acceptable. I chose this place based on the location away from the noise and yet close to the college. It was clean and quiet but that is it. The rate was affordable but next stay I will lodge in another close by town. There were people "hanging out" outside the front and back parking areas that caused me to be wary.

small hotel

Posted Sep 14, 2013
Pros: Location
Cons: Everything about the room needs improvement.
The motel is very worn and dated. The carpet has ripples and is quite bare. The bathroom counter was dirty and felt unsanitary. Nothing about the motel room was comforting and acceptable. Will NEVER stay there again and would NOT recommend to anyone. A very disappointing experience for almost $100. expenditure.

Clean and Convenient

Posted Sep 3, 2013
Location: Next to a convenience store and Denny's.
We just needed a place to stay on our way through. We made reservations the same day as our travel and weren't sure what it would be like. The staff was pleasant and helpful even though we were very late (1:30 a.m.) getting there. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Just what we needed for a short stay.

Close to Freeway

Posted Aug 28, 2013
Pros: Close to the freeway, cheap
Cons: exercise room.
Location: Freeway
We stayed there because they had an exercise room. The ancient treadmill was broken and the rest of the equipment looked like they bought it at the Goodwill. We chose that hotel because it had an exercise room. I had a grandson with me who needed to work out that night and he couldn't. Very dissappointing. We felt we were mis-led. Lied to really. Had we known the condition of the exercise equipment we would not have stayed there.

Easy access to / from freeway.

Posted Aug 20, 2013
It was adequate for what we needed at the time. It had easy access to and from the freeway and the cost was affordable.
