Pros: location
nice hotel close to ocean....friendly staff. Nice rooms... Charging 45$ for valet was bit expensive after paying steep price for the room.

We stayed one evening and I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the hotel and how comfortable the room was. Also, Aaron, the concierge was so helpful and wonderful to us. He drove us around and picked us up in the complimentary London taxi the hotel provides - it was fantastic!! Definitely staying again next time!

Great, but small bathrooms and rooms

We love the Grand Colonial in many ways, it's 1920 charm, the beautiful decor, and the restaurant's food and service is fantastic. There are only a few drawbacks. The bathroom is super tiny, and the hotel needs to add hooks for clothing, and more shelves to hold bathroom essentials. There's no place to set a hairdryer or makeup bag. There's only one hook way up high on the bathroom door that is ineffective in holding clothes. The only towel bar is in the shower, which never works. The light switch for the bathroom is outside the bathroom. This may seem picky but it all adds up to frustration when you're there for a week, and it's a fairly expensive hotel.

Wonderful historic hotel!

Pros: Lovely room with friendly and exceptional service.
Location: great shopping, the gorgeous La Jolla Cove, excellent restaurants....all within easy walking.
The Grande Colonial is a lovely hotel in the heart of beautiful La Jolla village. Service is not only exceptional, but friendly. Drinks and food at the bar were top notch. Wish we had a chance to dine at the much lauded Nine Ten restaurant, but alas, not this time. Note that valet parking is necessary if you have a car, which adds to the daily cost, but the service could not have been better. All in all, it was a great stay for a week in the San Diego area, and we would definitely return.

"old style" hotel in a lovely town.

Cons: nothing
Location: good location, go down hill to see seals and pelicans, across road for restaurants and bars.
Lovely old style hotel with good rooms and lovely staff. Very well situated for walks on the beach, restaurants and bars.

Great stay

Location: Walking distance to really great restaurants.
We have been to La Jolly for a winter break ( we live in Kansas) for over twenty years. This was our first stay at the Colonial Hotel. Everything was wonderful. The service, the room, the food, everything was nicer than we expected. We will return there.
