“Worst Night Ever”
I had requested in writing a late check-out because I was running in the Seabrook Marathon just right down the road, but apparently the staff did not give any heed to my request because the young man at the front desk told me that I would have to wait to speak to the manager in the morning - and she apparently would not be available until 8am. The marathon started at 7:15, so that was out of the question. Even when I asked for a mere extra hour and a half, the front desk staff acted as though that request would not be entertained. Then the room: my "non-smoking" room smelled of cigarette smoke, and the bed looked as though someone had been busy torturing it with cigarette burns. I was too tired to ask for a room change because I didn't get in until 1am, but a minute or so after I walked in, someone knocked on my door. Creepy enough, but what is worse is that at 3am, I was awakened to someone banging on doors below me, then on the door to the room right next to me (I was on the very end) and a woman screaming, "Please, please, please! I'm so scared!" Most terrifying thing I have ever heard. The room phone apparently does not dial out, even for emergencies, without some magical combination of numbers, codes, and secret passwords, so I dug out my cell phone and made the call to the police. In the morning (5:30am, great night's sleep), when I told the same front desk staff, he seemed largely unconcerned. Maybe that sort of thing just happens a lot there?
