Loved it! There's a convenient free bus service to the hotel (Contact the hotel in advance to make reservations from Odawara) Upon arrival we were greeted by friendly staff who held our bags for us as we were quite early. The hotel exterior does show age, but the interior is clean and very well presented.
We headed out via the rear entrance where there's access to a pirate ship that takes you across Lake Ashi to Hakone. (Buy Hakone Free pass at Odawara which gives you unlimited access to transport like the pirate ship, cable cars, buses etc for two days or more) The weather was forecast as cloudy with rain, but to our surprise it was warm and sunny so we were able to see Fuji throughout the day!
After visiting various areas (such as the amazing Open Air Museum with Picasso exhibit) we returned to the hotel and were promptly shown to our room. The hotel staff actually came up to the room with us and explained things like how to use the air con etc. The room was huge. We'd booked a superior twin room as it was the only one available on expedia and was relatively inexpensive and it was big (not just by Japanese standards either) The ceilings were really high and we had huge windows with a beautiful view of lake Ashi.
Outside of the hotel there isn't really much to do, but they do have a couple of very nice restaurants inside and a private bath area that you can hire for 45 minutes which was a very relaxing end to our day!
Highly recommend this hotel!

The location of the hotel is fabulous, right on the lake (you can't actually see Mount Fuji from the gardens). We didn't pay extra for a view and that was fine - although you may as well if you can afford it!
The room size (and the bed size) was huge compared to everywhere else we stayed.
The front desk were very helpful-let us check in early. There was always someone who was able to answer our questions about travelling round the area-they had reasonable English.
The hotel provided a free pick up from Odawara station-about 45 mins drive.
No wifi is available but there was an internet computer-100yen for 10 mins.
The public baths were available both inside and out which is a pretty nice experience.
The only negative experience was the food – 2 very expensive restaurants on site and no other options locally – and the Japanese restaurant was not able to provide vegetarian dinner even if we had wanted to pay that much. Anyway, its possible to get pot noodles and snacks from supermarket and stay in for a much cheaper dinner instead!
Just be careful of making the most of the Hakone Freepass - the ropeway and lake cruises near the hotel are NOT covered by the pass. The first day we spent there being frustrated about spending so much and not being able to use the pass - but the view from the ropeway is fabulous and we did get to see Mount Fuji (10% discount with pass). Make sure you get over by bus to the ropeway and funincular and boats from Togendai to fully utilise the Freepass.
