Great swimming pools overlooking the lakePosted Aug 26, 2014
This is a large hotel used a lot by tour groups. The rooms are comfortable (many with balconies overlooking Lake Como), but breakfast disappointing. We were advised there was free parking when we booked but there are only a small number of spaces behind the hotel and we had to pay to street park (9 Euros for 24 hours).

Absolute shambles and ignorant staffPosted Aug 24, 2014
Pros: The look of the outside and location is why we booked.
Cons: Reception staff replaced with people with customer service skills Keeping to promises of contracted guarantees for bookings Contacting guest email
Location: Como is very nice, parking very restricted. Good place to visit but not in the Hotel Britannia
Booked July to stay August 22nd. A guaranteed booking with parking & late arrival. Drove from Calais arrived at 7pm and found no parking reserved (It is very hard to find a space at lake Como & restricted with times). After taking our passports they told us they did not have a room for us. Following some arrogant attitude from the reception, a man and a Scottish woman, they said we can have a room at Hotel Lario at Mezzegra of the same standard. We were not happy with this but after being ignored for 20 minutes we went to have a look. Although marked as three star it certainly was not and completely different type of hotel. The place appeared empty as was the lounge and restaurant, completely different from the Britannia. If you look at the two hotels you can see the difference that they claimed were the same.We returned to the Britannia to complain again and asked them to find us a hotel of the same standard and was met with abuse and indifference and we actually stood there for 20 mins thinking they were looking for us. When a guest spoke to us and they were told to 'ignore them they are just standing there' Just hear say but other guests who see our predicament and told us of poor facilities, poor condition rooms, towels like tea cloths and of other guest that refused to stay there even on tour with a travel firm beginning with T. The whole customer service was appalling and not a very nice experience. At 9:30 we did find another but it was difficult and more expensive.

More suited to the elderlyPosted Aug 16, 2014
Pros: The staff, swimming pools, bedrooms.
Cons: Entertainment more varied. Facilities for children/teenagers/wet weather; such as pool table, table tennis, bar football etc. Quality of food. Bar.
Location: Right by the lake but a more quiet part. Generally need to get a ferry, walk or bus to get to the main shops and restaurants. Lovely walks.
The hotel is clean and the staff were lovely. There are two outside swimming pools and 5 of us never failed to get a sun bed at peak season (take a swimming hat for the lido pool). We went for B&B only. The food and drink was plentiful but of a poor quality. The bar is a large area in the basement of the hotel which resembles a working men's club. The entertainment consisted of a man with a keyboard set, I think, on organ mode! It was quite telling that some guests "broke free" and listened to another guest play the piano. We had a few problems while we were at the hotel but they were sorted out straight away. I would recommend that you speak to the staff if you are unhappy with anything. I would also recommend that you request a room away from the lift as it can be quite noisy. Generally the hotel was good but, as reflected by the majority of the clientele, more suited to the older guest.

Lovely hotelPosted Aug 14, 2014
Location: Villa Carlotta is in walking distance. Boat or taxi transportation is always available. Close to Bellagio.
My husband & I really enjoyed this hotel. Our room had a lovely balcony overlooking the gorgeous pool and the town Varenna across Lake Como. It was enjoyable to listen to the band playing in the evenings by the pool. Our room was very clean and had excellent bedding. The breakfast buffet was very good and had many choices. This hotel was in walking distance to Villa Carlotta, so great location. We took the boat to visit other towns on the lake. It rained but we were prepared with poncho's and umbrellas. Lake Como is beautiful in all weather conditions! We hope to return to this hotel in the future!

Ok stay, Free Parking???Posted Aug 5, 2014
The room we had was great but step outside it and you step into a world that I can only imagine to be like Benidorm, not that I have seen Benidorm for myself! Parking...As we were on a road trip around Italy, the first prerequisite was that the hotel must have free or paid-for parking. As the Expedia website stated free parking I booked the hotel only to turn up and there were no parks left. Get in early!!! For a 192 room hotel you would expect more parks than the 20 or so it has! The food is very average, mass produce (as it needs to be to cater for the hordes of hotel guests), it would suit your average Benidorm holiday maker (Brit) to a tea! Gelato was the only thing that tasted Italian authentic. In summary, if you don't need a car park, don't want to eat at the hotel and love hearing knitting stories being swapped by the oldies in the lobbies, you've found your place. FYI, the room we had (519) was great for us.

Give it a missPosted Jul 21, 2014
Cons: Customer service
Location: Too far from anywhere or anything
We had a mix up with the booking, the staff were not at all helpful. In fact very argumentative. The hotel is one hour out of Como costing $80€ by taxi in & out of the town. There are not any restaurants near the hotel. The hotel room was adequate, however the air conditioning didn't work & the breakfast was awful.

Great location but full of coach partiesPosted Jul 19, 2014
All this hotel has going for it is the location which opposite Bellagio is stunning. Hotel is tired and in need of some attention. Having travelled around Italy for two weeks I can honestly say the Staff were the least friendly and bothered and were too busy to care less. Parking limited and be prepared to get blocked in!

Excellent hotel - would highly recommendPosted Jul 18, 2014
Pros: The all inclusive option, the quality of our room and the views across the lake.
Cons: The basement bar is pretty dire, but when it's dry I'd highly recommend drinkning by the pool bar in any case.
Location: Definitely recomment hiring a speed boat. There's a guy in Ossucio that does a great deal - we paid €90 for 2 hours' hire. Check out hiringaboat.com
I stayed here with my girlfriend in June and the trip was so good we've booked to come again in August. Lake Como is full of money so you can certainly splash the cash if you have it, but if you're looking for a reasonably priced hotel with a nice pool, excellent lake views and a nice, comfortable room, this is a good bet. My tip for anyone considering this hotel is to definitely pay the extra on arrival for a platinum upgrade. This is €23 pp per day and covers all drinks and meals - money well spent considering how much this would otherwise cost you. The breakfast is a little underwhelming, but the lunch and dinner is excellent.
