A walkers' retreat

We found the walk to Como very beautiful and took the funicular back to Brunate. The hotel is the 15 minutes walk down hill. You need to be a confident driver or a happy hiker to get the best out of this delightful hotel and restaurant. We ate at the hotel both nights and were very happy with both the quality and service. Friendly staff.

We were a little bit nerved at the directions given to get to the hotel (through signposts from the village, and our sat-nav). The road there is in places less than 1.90 wide and very bendy. Even though we were on a motorbike it was difficult to negotiate. The cleaner needs to be armed with a duster and posibly a vacuum cleaner - the bedroom furniture was dusty and there were nail clippings on the floor! Yuck! The breakfast was typical Italien, ie. not much variety. However the evening mealwas excellent! I recommend the lamb. Don't believe the "20 mins to the town" when taking the pathway through the woods. We tried two different ways, one took over 2 hours to get to the lakeside and the 0 minute route took almost 1 hour. Lastly, don't forget the anti-mosquito spray - the beasts are definitely hungry. ;-)

Stunning view down to the lake

It is necessary to have a car to get there and the drive on extremely narrow windy roads was nerve wracking but once you were there it was all worth it. The views, sunset, food and the relaxed atmosphere was appealing.

Astonishing views ...

Very nice stay overall, we stayed 4 nights and enjoyed both the hotel and the restaurant. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are simple but correctly sized and benefit from the view over the lake. 30mn walk will take to the Funiculare down to Como. The surroundings are very quiet which makes the place very peaceful. Just be aware that the drive to the hotel is not a very large road, but it is totally worth it !

A little out of the way but lovely views.

Quiet location, little out of the way but worth it. We only stayed 2 nights, if it had been longer then it would have been a little more difficult to get about. You can walk to Como town but its down a steep path, takes about 30 mins. The funicular is about 1.5k away and would be up hill. Hotel was clean and spacious very friendly and helpful staff, evening meals were good, only 10euro for a bottle of Prosecco!! Excellent value. After reading the reviews we were wondering what the roads were going to be like, not sure what all the fuss is about, no different to the quiet country lanes in the UK. Hotel is well sign posted.
