“A very quiet 'out of season' resort”
We booked this hotel in the resort of Gardone Riviera, North side of lake within 30min walk of Salo in first week of October. It was very quiet with only two points of interest within the resort, The botanical gardens and the Gardens/Museum/house of Vittorio (House,Museum closed Monday)
Transport in/out of the resort was very sparse this time of year with only one bus in the morning at 0822hrs going south through Salo to the rail station at Desenzano (links to Venice/Verona (Airport)/Milan) and two in the afternoon to return.
Going/Returning further north was a similar problem, only one in the morning and two in the late afternoon.
There are buses to Brescia, via Salo from the resort which will link to same railway line for Venice/Milan and the bus service is more regular.
The lake boat service is also very limited to the resort. (7.40 euros for slow boat, 10.40 Euros for fast one) If you arrive at Verona on a Sunday then go on to Brescia and catch bus from there, not Desenzana, virtually no buses on a Sunday and only 2 boats in the afternoon!
Trains to Venice are pretty regular from Desenzano or Brescia but beware that there are 2 trains - Eurostar at 22 Euros each way pp, seats booked in advance, or 'cattle class' less than half that price but you may have to stand! No hire cars available that time of year.
The local restuarants were all open and, being quiet not very busy, the ones we tried were all good.
Hotel v. good, no complaints, would again in season at busier resort.
