    The Optimal Time to Visit

Summer is the best time to visit Lake George, and the lake itself is the main attraction. Every Thursday in July and August, the town of Lake George hosts an impressive fireworks display at dusk. When you get tired of swimming, kayaking, or basking in the sun on one of Lake George’s many beaches, try your hand at parasailing or go for a cruise on a classic Adirondacks steamboat. Adirondack mountain trails offer first-class hiking with breathtaking views of the lake from their summits. You can also fish for trout and bass, but make sure your permit is in order.

    Historical and Cultural Attractions

In the 17th century, the French and the English struggled bitterly for control of the Adirondacks, and living history performances at Fort William Henry in the town of Lake George make that history come alive. British and French animosity came to a head at the Battle of Lake George, which took place at the Lake George Battlefield, less than a mile away from the Fort. Today, that battlefield is a pleasant picnic ground along the lake where you can hike, swim, fish, or rent a canoe.

From June through August, Glens Falls hosts the Adirondack Theatre Festival, focusing on new and contemporary plays starring professional actors. The 300-seat Charles R. Wood Theater, where the shows take place, also serves as the home for the Glens Fall Symphony Orchestra.

    Lake George Resort Amenities

Lake George resorts are designed to be a great place to relax after a long day outside having fun in the water or on the slopes. You’ll discover many spa resorts offering soothing massages for aching muscles and beauty treatments designed to undo the deleterious effects of sun and lake water on hair and skin. You’ll also find a handful of Lake George, NY, resorts that cater specifically to horseback riding lovers and offer dude ranch activities in addition to swimming, boating, and fishing. Whatever types of outdoor activities excite you, Expedia.com can help you find the resorts in Lake George where you can enjoy them.

    Exploring the Adirondacks

Lake George is only 30 miles north of the historic town of Saratoga Springs. The Saratoga Springs racetrack is one of the oldest in the nation. Saratoga’s racing season begins in July and continues all the way until Labor Day. Saratoga is also famous for its mineral hot springs, which have drawn visitors to the area for centuries.

New York is second only to California in the production of outstanding local wines, and the area around Lake George boasts several wineries, breweries, and distilleries. The Saratoga Winery maintains a tasting room 4 miles outside Saratoga Springs where you can sip Riesling, Pinot Noir, and the winery’s signature Saratoga White. You’ll find the Adirondack Winery in the town of Lake George itself. House specialties include strawberry- and peach-infused white wines.

If you like to shop, the area around Lake George is a veritable factory outlet paradise with four centers featuring deep discounts on hundreds of name brand manufacturers. Lake George also has a reputation as one of the mini-golf capitals of the United States, and it’s fun to while away an afternoon on an outrageously themed course with a spectacular view of the Adirondacks in the background. Whatever type of Lake George vacation you're dreaming of, Expedia.com offers the best deal on flights and quality lodging at a cheap price.
