Beautiful View in Lucern!Posted Sep 6, 2013
Pros: Location and view are first rate.
Cons: The mattress could use an upgrade, thenairconditioner was quite noisy and not very efficient behind heavy curtains.
Location: The location is an easy walk from the station and steamer dock. Old Town is also close by. The lakeside promenade is very pleasant for a walk.
We stayed at the National hotel only for one night. Our room overlooked the lake and we had a first class view of the activity around the Harbour and the mountains in the distance. It helped that the weather was perfect! The staff was very helpful and pleasant. It was apparent that the National Hotel was a grand hotel of the Golden Age of Travel with grand staircases, high ceilings and wide hallways. The Terrace was very pleasant for a drink after dinner.

A truly grand hotel experiencePosted Aug 30, 2013
Pros: Very historic and beautiful and the service was fantastic.
Location: A great location within a short walk to the city center.
A simply beautiful facility at a great location in Lucerne. The rooms are very tastefully done, but do noy have true air conditioning, which made for a somewhat uncomfortable night due to unusually warm August weather. For the price of these rooms the hotel shoulld be prepared for anything.

The best views in Lucerne!Posted Aug 25, 2013
Pros: Our room was just beautiful and the view was amazing.
Cons: The bed was a bit hard but I like a very soft bed.
Location: Make sure you take a trip up Mt. Pilatus along with the Lake tour. Indescribable beauty!! Don't trust weather reports.... just GO!!
One of my favorite things of this two day trip was enjoying the incredible views from our hotel patio while reading and drinking coffee. It rained over the mountains and we were treated to a double rainbow!

Dress up stayPosted Aug 18, 2013 on Hotels.com
After a week of biking, hiking, etc., we wanted a super nice hotel and found it in the Grand National. Well located; well appointed; friendly / helpful staff. Primary (although still minor) disappointments - the bar (beautiful oak paneled room overlooking the lake) was closed because "all service was outside". Bummer. Second one - the menu was a little too "nouveau" for my tastes. Everything was excellent, but we'd 've liked a menu with a little more mainline Swiss offerings.

The Grand National really is a Grand Hotel. Greeted with a glass of bubbly and a warm smile. All staff extremely helpful and friendly. Lake view room was fantastic! Beautifully furnished with handwritten personal greeting. Very nice touch. Most comfortable bed ever! We will return (if budget allows because yes - it is on the pricier side!)

Good room, excellent locationPosted Aug 11, 2013
Very special room, with great bathroom. wonderful location right on Lake Lucerne. Restaurant was silly expensive. Air conditioner is right over the entrance to the balcony and drips down on the balcony. Front desk was helpful but it seemed to be reluctantly.

Beautiful hotel in great location and good service. However, note that only rooms facing lake have air conditioning...and opening windows on town side can be noisy.
