5 star prices - not 5 star otherwisePosted Sep 19, 2014
The hotel is in an nice location on the outskirts of Stresa on the shore of Lake Maggiore. It is a magnificent old building with pleasant rooms, albeit on the small side. Unfortunately the hotel seems to live on its past, and doesn't seem to realise there is more to running a hotel than the location and the hotel facilities. The service and quality of food at breakfast was poor. Staff didn't respond to clients very well - there was nobody to show new guests to a table and explain the system. Staff often stood talking to each other and on more than one occasion it was necessary to ask twice for tea/coffee. The buffet was spread out over a large room necessitating quite a long walk looking for things. The hot buffet was really poor - with eggs and bacon left out for long periods going cold. In a hotel like this you would expect a chef to be preparing hot food to order at the buffet. Can't recommend it.

Superb old world elegance!Posted Sep 10, 2014
Pros: Everything - especially the marvelous breakfast.
Location: Stresa is an ideal location from which to hike in the hills surrounding Lago Maggiore, or take excursions to the Borromean Islands or even Switzerland
My wife and I spent four days at the Grand Hotel, capping off a two week visit to Italy. The hotel itself is the epitome of old world elegance. The room was quite spacious, especially by European standards, with more than adequate closet space and dresser drawers. Adjoining, was a large bathroom with a Jacuzzi tub, which came in very handy after our hiking in the surrounding hills! The breakfast, which was included in the overall price, was likewise superb, with a wide variety of cheeses, salami, prosciutto, fruit, breads, pastries, juices, etc. The hotel is directly on Lago Maggiore, and a five minute walk from the pier from which ferries depart for various destinations along the shores of the lake. All in all, a most enjoyable experience!

Best hotel in Stresa by some distance.Posted Sep 7, 2014
Pros: That there was not anything we found to dislike about it.
Cons: Something could be done with the seemingly unused building behind the swimming pool lawns.
Location: Make sure you visit the gardens of the Villa Taranto and allow about three hours for a leisurely stroll around them.
This is a Grand Hotel in the true sense of the description. From the elegance of the themed corridors on the different floor levels to the immaculate gardens and the food served in the restaurant. The rooms are beautifully furnished and the staff a delight to deal with. Somewhere you feel where nothing would be too much trouble for them for them. However go somewhere else if you are into stainless steel and synthetic modernity rather than marble and Murano glass chandeliers.

Prestigious Hotel with Family ServicePosted Sep 3, 2014
Pros: Position in the town with magnificent views of the Lake and the Borromeos Islands.
Cons: Duration of our stay.
Location: Beautiful set up for the Islands water taxi's and the promenade to the Town. Close to the station with direct line to Milan.
Total experience was one of comfortable luxury, with attentive responsible staff, always available if required, who endeavoured to make you stay as pleasurable as possible. Hotel facilities excellent, food beyond reproach, and the view to die for.
