Lovely stay
Had a lovely one night stay at the hotel. Ample parking, very nice room, bed comfortable. Hotel is set in lovely grounds and is within walkable distance of the town. Breakfast was good, with plenty of choice; we sat on the terrace with great views. Would recommend.

Stayed an extra day following a tour that ended at hotel . Everything was fine . Would suggest dining room lights be dimmed at dinner time ..very bright ..cafeteria like .

Great view of the lake from the balcony. Absolutely beautiful sunset view and lights at night on Isola San Giulio (island right on front of the hotel).. Great service and wonderful restaurant.

Fantastic family run hotel with free parking/wifi and excellent breakfast on their terrace. Our room had a balcony with a spectacular view of Isola San Giulio. This hotel is an easy and pleasant walk into the centro of Orta San Guilio (it is NOT remote).

Hikers Dream
My husband and I came early for a Walking Adventures trip and they were very accommodating. We did not have to switch rooms after our personally paid one night. They are within walking distance to town and have a pool. The view is wonderful! Beautiful area. Lots of hiking opportunities right at your doorstep.

Anna and her family were very gracious hosts. We had a great time even though the temperature in town ranged from 90 to 100 and the bugs in the air were terrible due to the heat. We had air conditioning in our room which was perfect.

Loved our stay in this hotel, the staff were lovely and very helpful. We found the shower very small which was fine for us but if we were larger it would be a problem. Loved the balcony to sit and have a relaxing afternoon in the sunshine. The hotel was in a perfect location to see the sights of the area which were beautiful. Sacro Monte Di Orta, the wood with 20 chapels was very interesting to visit. The ferries to other villages was very affordable and a pleasant experience.

Lake Orta is a beautiful town to visit
It was early in the season and the weather was bad, but the Hotel Bussola was open and welcoming. The included breakfast was great and even included custom egg orders. Since the restaurant was not open for other meals, I cannot comment on those. The outdoor pool and deck area was also not open, but looked impressive and probably hopping during the season. Orta San Guilio was a pleasant surprise as a destination and there is a lot to see in the area.

Great Location - great views
This hotel is situated on the fringe of the old town, set on the hill above and to the right of the town. It is easy to drive to without going through the town. There is plenty of outdoor parking. The hotel has a lift, servicing the three floors. Although lake view rooms are more expensive, it is worth it if you are only there for a short visit. The walk down to the town is not long at all, but it is steep, either via steps or Street, and is not very easy for people with mobility problems. The hotel has a good restaurant very good for dinner or breakfast, and comes with great views of the lake. The only small negative issue experienced was that the wi-fi connection requires repeated login after inactivity on a connected device.

Good breakfast on terrace with lovely view over the island. Staff very helpful. Pool very well maintained and clean but a bit cold until late afternoon when sun had heated it. good free table tennis table with bats and balls provided.

Six and counting
This was our sixth stay at the Bussola as Orta is somewhere we visit regularly. For the first time in a few visits we ate here too. We had forgotten how good the food is and having dinner and on the terrace overlooking the lake is the perfect location to enjoy it. The menu was different on each of the two nights with enough choice for most people. The only minor criticism from last time, paying for WiFi, has now been resolved and it’s free like most hotels. It’s only a matter of time until our seventh stay.

Romantic Lake Orta
Our third visit to Orta San Giuliano and second stay at Hotel la Bussola. Comfortable, family run hotel with great views of the lake. Ideal location for short walk into the old town. Highly recommended.

Everything done right
We stayed at Hotel La Bussola for 4 nights and were completely satisfied. We had a balcony view of the lake from the top floor. The room was large, well furnished, nice bathroom, good airconditioning, quiet, elevator access, lots of hangers and shelves, comfortable king size mattress, good lighting and power outlet access, English language channels on the TV and clean floors for walking around in socks or bare feet. The breakfast is good with a spectacular view. The wait staff are a little stiff and could smile more but they were very nice! So if I had to hunt for anything as a possible deficiency it would be not to have a box of tissues available. But in fairness, we seldom find them in Italian hotels. We appreciated the location because it was not in the heart of town with it's busy tourist traffic but an easy 10 minute walk. Sometimes a Hotel can do everything right but we don't find it often.

First room given overlooked a parking lot. Staff was good about changing to one with much better lake view. Room was simple. Second room had no shower (tub with spray hose), but we accepted due to improved view. Room and bath was clean. Tried to check out at 6:45. Couldn't. No one there until after 7.

Foxy was a winner!
We came fir my daughter's wedding and the hotel was recommended for it's family friendliness and lively dog Foxy. This was true. We were well looked after and enjoyed our stay very much.

Would have been better with more information about car access and parking. We inadvertently drove into a pedestrianized area and think we will be fined. Also did not know it is quite a steep climb up to the hotel, especially when carrying suitcases! Nice room, should have had a fridge. Overall pretty good.

This friendly, family run hotel was excellent in every way. They could not do enough for you. From food (evening meal was superb standard) to cleanliness - changed bedding almost every day-to excellent information about trips available from the area. We particularly enjoyed meeting Foxy - their very well mannered and affectionate Dalmatian - he was a delight!

Romantic holiday.
We were 8 days at Hotel La Bussola. It was a nice hotel with a beautiful garden with a big swimmingpool. Our room was excellent with 2 balconies and a fatastic panorama to the lake and the mountains and the situation near the center of Orta san Giulio was perfect. The breakfast was very good.

Pros: Lake Orta is beautiful, charming, romantic with restaurants and shops in the town. Hotel is just outside the old town, about a 10 minute walk to the central plaza. A little longer than I would have liked. Hotel is clean-- pool water was especially inviting. Hotel's front desk and cleaning staff were extremely accommodating and friendly. Free parking. Cons: Beds are awful. Very hard. I could feel the springs. (But staff did their best to make them more comfortable for us by putting a comforter under the sheets.) Hotel needs an update. Decor seems out of date. Wait staff in restaurant was not as friendly as other staff in the hotel.

Great location for a change of pace after Florence
A wonderful find, both the hotel and the area. A nice family-run hotel with great views of the lake. Good buffet breakfasts on the terrace. Be prepared for lots of walking as it is a great area to explore; the village, the island and the world heritage chapels. Nice pool and the lake was perfect for swimming as well.

The room itself was nice and the location is OK if you don't have heavy backpacks or luggage on you because its up a very large hill. I did unfortunately have a couple issues- I needed to call and ask for clean bed sheets, the AC was broken during my stay and it was Hot (the kind maintenance lady got me a fan though), and the pool was closed! On May 19th! I'm from Canada- if the water isn't frozen, we swim in it. So all of the reasons I chose this hotel had fallen through so it was disappointing overall. Because the AC was broken I had to sleep with the window open (it was hot) and had the worst allergies I've ever had that night and the next morning so I didn't sleep well. The guy did give me a slight discount on my room though because quite a few things were wrong during my stay.

A friendly, family run hotel
La Bussola is family-run hotel in a prime position, within easy (downhill all the way!) walking distance of the centre of Orta San Guilia. We stayed in a standard room on the first floor (No. 118) which was pleasantly furnished and had everything that we needed. We were also pleased to find that it had french doors leading on to a private terrace from which we could see the lake and look over the gardens. A table, chairs and sun umbrella were provided for our use, which I thought was a nice touch. Breakfast is done as a buffet, and consists of fresh rolls,breads, croissants, meats, cheeses, fruits, yoghurts, boiled eggs etc and everything is fresh and well presented. Eating such a breakfast out on the terrace, looking over the lake and the Island of San Guilia would set anybody up for the day ahead. The owners are very friendly and helpful and obviously take great pride in their hotel and I would be pleased to recommend it to anyone.

Lovely family run hotel.
Room was tidy and clean, food was great and service excellent, the hotel had it's own swimming pool watch out for the 1 euro charge per towel, it is in walking distance of Orta town. Our room had the most fantastic views of the lake and Island. the most stunning thing was to sit on the main balcony and have breakfast overlooking the town of Orta and the Lake, that alone was well worth every euro spent on this short 5 day holiday.

There for a wedding. Lovely balcony overlooking lake and island. Bit of a hill when returning from the lovely village. Breakfast good choice with good service. Only complaint was the air conditioning was turned off at midnight and mosquitos were a problem so couldn't open the windows. Nothing spoiled our holiday not even the thunder storms.
