It was very clean the snacks available were nice car park was good and they got me soya milk and gluten free bread First room had broken tatty shower and air con that didn't work got moved to alternative room nice shower no toilet seat they said they couldn't get one it wasn't comfortable! Air con wasn't that effective Staff were very mixed some helpful some quite rude It was up a hill that was blind and didn't have any pavement The breakfast was a very strange selection no toaster available and the fruit juice was very watered down the water heater broke and it was hard to get water for tea and you were shouted at if you tried to get it from the coffee machine! Great potential needs good management

Don’t stay here during heat wave
We stayed here one night during heat wave. Unfortunately the air condition didn’t function at the same time as the elevator, and the lights went out 3 times during our stay. Apart from that the hotel is a bit worn down, but the service was friendly and breakfast ok.

Great location if visiting Sacro Monte Di Orta
The hotel is located very close to Sacro Monte Di Orta. The breakfast was adequate, the WIFI did not work in the rooms. They were being installed while we were staying there. They had WIFI on the first floor but the first floor was not air conditioned. The staff was very friendly in fact they drove us the 1/2 mile to the train station the day we left.

Lovely quaint town
Actually stayed at the hotel’s alternative location in downtown Orta San Guilo. Much better location than the original hotel. Staff extremely helpful and accommodating. Breakfast was amazing. Ask to stay in their downtown location. Love Orta San Guilo

Wonderful staff, slightly out of town.
We stayed at the Santa Caterina for a couple of nights in May. The hotel is a little way from the lakeside in Orta, but for us it was a good location. We arrived from Turin by train and the hotel was a short walk downhill from the station. The hotel staff were all really friendly and helpful and made us feel welcome. The hotel itself is pretty basic, and the WiFi only really worked in the ground floor, but it wasn't an issue for us. Breakfast was buffet style and there was a small area downstairs to make tea and coffee along with a selection of juices throughout the day. A small walk down the road from the hotel took you past the beautiful hotel Crespo and there is a delicious gelato bar here next door to a bar. We took the long walk lakeside down to the town and enjoyed the peace and scenery, but there is a quicker way too. All in all, we both really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again.

A pleasant, friendly typical small hotel, close-15 minute walk.to Orta st Guilia. Clean, need to be away from the road if possible as we were. Fantastic breakfast. Free coffee and cakes downstairs! Would recommend. Only problem is wi fi-available only on the ground floor and sometimes not even then.

Best breakfast in Italy
Hotel Santa Caterina is clean, reasonably comfortable, and the staff are mostly friendly and helpful. Especially Serena! The buffet breakfast is amazing. It is not luxury, but it does the job at a reasonable price.

Good value for a week stay
Old fashioned hotel. 3 star. But great Buffett breakfast, plenty of choice and fresh each day.. Nice touch of coffee, cold drinks and cakes and yogurts to help yourself to.. Free wifi, patchy and only near reception.. Rooms basic, but clean.. Old style hotel with comfortable beds.. Choose a balcony room facing downhill.. We booked last minute, cheap deal to the lovely lake.. But you can't see lake at all from here.. Up the hill from main square 15 min brisk walk.. Not for the faint hearted .. Hotel is downhill walk from train station, bout 8 mins.. But not really near anything.. We would choose to stay in the square area next time as the walk up hill to the hotel in the heat was wearisome ! Go for one with a bathing area.

Good value for money
The hotel provides good value for money. Cleaning service was a bit slow (room done around 5 pm or so). A short walk from the city centre, but that was OK.

A magnificent place to see
Many lovely walks along the Lake, with cherry blossoms, Magnolias, and camellias out in April. Ferry trip to the top of Lake Orta was wonderful. Would have liked to have stayed longer than 2 days.

Good value hotel with very helpful staff
We were very impressed with the welcome and the receptionist was extremely helpful, even providing us with pliers and a screw driver when we couldn't open the padlock on one of our cases. The room was adequate and clean and the shower was good. The choice of food at breakfast was excellent and we liked the availability of free water, soft drinks and cakes after 3 pm. The only downside was the lack of a path on the road outside the hotel.

Quirky hotel
My husband and I (50s) stayed 6 nights in September. The room was on second floor. It was adequate for our needs and clean. The bed was firm but we like it that way. The location is on the edge of the town on San Guilio and a nice walk into the old town by a path along the lake. The return is uphill at the very end, but we are fit so managed this fine. The breakfast buffet is expansive and there is a hospitality room open each day from 3pm where you can make yourself tea/coffee and cake.

HOTEL CATERINA EXPERIENCE
We found the staff pleasant. The hotel was very clean and comfortable. The best thing were the fantastic breakfasts - an absolute feast! The free hot and cold drinks and tasty snacks were a very good feature and welcome on return from a day out. Lake Orta is a bit off the main tourist route out of season and we found, without a car, that getting to other places was difficult. (May) We found that the hotel staff and the two tourist offices were unaware of the possibilities of public transport. With a bit of initiative we found our own route via public transport to Lake Maggiore which proved very easy. More information would have been good. It is not easy to get to Orta from the airport without a car. We decided to book a taxi which was a very good idea. The taxi firm were excellent. There is almost enough to do at Lake Orta for a week without travelling elsewhere and plenty of lovely eating places, several within easy reach of the hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed the holiday.

Perfect if you're arriving by train!
Very nice, friendly hotel overall in a great location for those arriving by train. It is a 15-20 minute walk to Orta San Giulio but if you are reasonably able bodied it's not really a problem, we went there and back 4 times in two days and were fine! The room was modern and clean with a balcony and a nice view of the little terrace. The only problem we had was that they had forgotten to put towels in our room, which they rectified immediately when we asked them. The breakfast buffet was lovely, very varied for a smallish hotel, and there was a free snack and soft drink bar in a little lounge available from 3pm until 7am.

Not really a hotel
Very disappointed. Strange decor, staff not at all helpful, restaurant affiliation was a 20 minute walk. Breakfast was posted as 7:00 but on Saturday it didn't start until 8:00. Room wasn't cleaned during our stay until 4:00 and sometimes the sheets weren't changed. We arrived by train and could have used help or directions to get to hotel. Nothing was offered. Would never stay there again even though we loved the area.

Very good value hotel with lots of free extras
We were particularly impressed with the friendly and helpful person on reception who was very willing to offer tourist advice. Other very impressive features of this hotel were the in-room refrigerated bottled water and snacks, plus the availability of free snacks and drinks downstairs. Breakfasts were a highlight catering for all tastes and dietary needs Wifi was only available downstairs The hotel is handy to the train station, unfortunately on a busy road without pedestrian path, and a 15 min walk from the main square in Orta

Poor quality room, nice hotel overall
Quality of our room was poor, it needed repainting and some basic repair; also, it did not have a TV (although it is stated on Expedia website that every room has one and frankly you would expect it from every hotel, even the most basic). Ok for one night, but wouldn't stay for longer. To be honest, i guess we were just unlucky with our room, our friends stayed in the room next to ours and it was in better condition and it also had a TV. Staff was ok and kindly let us park in the free parking (300 metres from the hotel) even after check out. Breakfast is probably the best part, there's everything you may want..

Ace hotel
Great hotel. We visited for 4 nights last week and loved every minute. The staff were brilliant, the breakfast was great, the snack room was a welcome advantage. I don't think walking 300m for free parking is that much of a problem at all but would agree with some other viewers about the slightly treachorous non-pavement immediately outside the hotel could be a problem for those with kids. The room was perfectly adequate for a 3 star hotel, fine, uncontrollable air con, but given the summer we have had in England so far this year I was more than happy to be warm for a change, and it wasn't that bad at all, perhaps because we had a room at the rear so was perhaps a bit more shady? I also realy enjoyed the fact that the hotel was a 15 minute walk into the centre of Orta SG, it gave an opportunity to appreciate the surroundings on the way down, and a bit of exercise on the way back. A stroll in the evening after eating far too much pizza is no bad thing in my book... We'll be returning!

Nice hotel, pass on the restaurant ...
Hotel is perfectly located, and the only one right on the water in Bellagio. Thoroughly enjoyed the balcony overlooking the lake. Whatever you do, don't eat at the hotel restaurant. Included breakfast was ok, but dinner was dreadful (fish burnt and raw at the same time, still had many scales) and way over priced. While the lake side location is tempting, there are many better options available around town.

Amazing breakfast
This is a funky modern hotel in an older building. The rooms are quite nice. The breakfast is quite amazing, an amazing spread of options and items. The rooms are average sized, the bathroom reasonable and accessible. The hotel is located on a fairly busy street. Unfortunately, there is no sidewalk to get from the hotel along that street down to the street that takes you to the city center, but its only about 200-300 feet to walk carefully. Internet access is weird, apparently only available during certain hours down in the lobby area. When its available, it is free, but its reliability doesn't appear that good. There is a nice small sitting room that has snacks (left-overs from breakfast mostly) and drinks available. The walk from the hotel down to the city center is about 20-30 minutes, up/down a moderate grade.

Santa Caterina - A great place for a short stay
This hotel could be perfect with just a few changes and I would love to give it the maximum rating. The hotel is in a great location. The service was very friendly, the room was modern and the breakfast buffet was one of the best I ever encountered worldwide (including many 4 & 5 star hotels). The problem lays in the maintenance of the rooms. One light fixture was loose and came out of the wall. The two lamps next to the bed had their shade missing. The rod holding the shower head was broken off on the bottom and there was black mold on the grout in the shower. These problems could be solved with little money but with a focused maintenance staff and would leave a much better overall impression on the guests. I still recommend it because of a good price/performance ratio.

Hotel Santa Caterina - Lake Orta
The hotel is located a few minutes drive from the village of Orta. This was fine for us as we were travelling by car. Orta is a lovely place and highly recommended. Convenient basement parking. The hotel is fitted out in a contempory style. There is a large selection at breakfast, probably as the owners also have a restaurant in the village. Would recommned to those with transport, others may find it a little isolated from the nightlife of Orta.

I wouldn't recommend. Must be better in area.
The room we were originally assigned was VERY basic. All white with very inexpensive furniture (Ikea type for dorms). We asked if there was another room available and was told there was none available. Later they called and moved us to a larger room that at least had a TV and a bit more space. It still had very basic furniture and my end table was a cube with form rubber on the top and no cover. It was very warm while we there and they turned off the air conditioning at around 11 p.m. and it was not on again when we left the room at around 10 a.m. the next morning. My daughter called to ask to have it turned on in her room and was told to open her window. Our car was blocked in by another car in the garage and it took about 1/2 hour to find the culprit. They should get the license numbers of the people parking in the garage so they know who to look for.

A good hotel in a magical destination
This hotel is very good value for money, with extremely helpful, pleasant staff, a good standard of cleanliness and an excellent breakfast. We have stayed here twice now. It is a longish walk into Orta san Giulio itself (although you can take the trenino) but definitely worth it. The town is absolutely enchanting.
