Good location, views and staff. Not good smell.
Great view of the lake, nice manager but the cigarette smell was very strong and made the experience not so fun. However, they did have the best croissant in the whole region for breakfast.

Venue of choice for return booking!
Having enjoyed a 3-night stay at the Sempione last year, we had no hesitation in booking the same hotel for a return visit to Stresa. The location is very convenient for exploring the town and for ferries to the islands or around the lake, and the staff are efficient and friendly. With its superb lake views, our balcony room was clean,comfortable, spacious and well-appointed. Breakfast was good, with excellent coffee. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Gorgeous veiw of lake
Hotel really needs a refurbishment, its a budget hotel, but really needs modernising. Man on reception who also serves breakfast,was an excellent host Well done😀 & thank you. (From Surrey) Please spend some money on mordenishg as fab location & would return if work done. Excellent holiday as didn't spend a lot of time in room.

A small hotel in a great location.
The hotel is in front of Lake Maggiore, a short walk to the ferry terminus and restaurants & shops. It is rather basic and dated but a good place to stay if you want lake views in a convenient position at a reasonable cost.

Nice View with no air conditioning
Beautiful view from the rooms with a lake-view balcony, a great location, and nice small hotel with decent continental breakfast. Be warned no air conditioning, no fans, and no screens on windows; therefore, lots of showers needed and bring mosquito spray as a precaution, if you stay here during the hotter months. The hotel staff were polite and friendly. Hotel is also a reasonably short walk to the main square, the ferries to the Lake's isles, and the seasonal buses from Orta San Guilio and to the bus to Milan's Malpensa Airport.

Nice staff. Fantastic location, with views from our lake view balcony to die for - absolutely stunning. Decent breakfast and clean room. The only downside is the ants in the bathroom, which sometimes made it into the bedroom.

Brilliant location
Hotel in prime location, staff very helpful and pleasant. Rooms clean but a bit outdated, also restaurant the same. Free breakfast was usual stuff but croissants were excellent! Wifi only worked at front of Hotel, think there is a location downstairs but didn't try it. Cheap and cheerful but could do with a makeover to bring it up to date.

A perfect stay!
Although officially classed as 2-star, this was better than any 3-star and many 4-star hotels we've come across in years of extensive travel. Our 4th floor room with balcony overlooking the lake promenade was very large, clean and really comfortable, with the biggest bathroom ever! Only regret was not being able to stay for more than the 3 nights we booked.

Awesome view from the balcony.
This is a budget hotel with a quirky shower arrangement.....risk of flooding room. But the price and the view from the balcony make up for this. Great location close to ferry terminal and to the center of Stresa.

Budget Place for a short stay
I Stayed at the hotel for two nights. At the begining the hotel location is very good and its walkable from the train station. Once i arrived i found everything ready so i just took my keys and went straight to my room. The room was a bit small not as expected so its not like the pictures avaliable but it was okay. The room is old with a balcony and the beds are quite good. The toilet is also clean and equiped with a hairdrayer. Apart from the room they serve good breakfast for a 2 star hotel while you sit and dnjoy the view overlooking the lago maggiore from the resturant.

Good location. Poor room with lake view. No aircon so windows open so very traffic noisy on the main road through town. Breakfast was OK.. Do not recommend.

Shabby chic hotel with comfortable beds. Plenty of towels. Friendly staff. Great view from balcony although parents should note that the balcony doors could be opened by children. Not a huge choice for breakfast if you are gluten free like us. It was out of season in Stresa and midweek we didn't find many restaurants open. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much.

Fabulous views
Slightly shabby hotel just across the road from Lago Maggiore. The staff are very friendly with a delightful attitude and not much English (very refreshing in the tourist drenched north of Italy). Ask for a Lake View room, you won't be disappointed.

Happy to be there
very positiv. A modest room but with simple old furnitires but certain old fashion style charm. Red walls and arts on the walls. I felt really comfortable. Everything was well prepared and clean. basic Breakfast with very good coffee and professional service with amazing view on the lake. If somebody is looking for nice room to stay, pay attention to budget, wants to be near center, and still not disturbed, have a luxus view of the see during the breakfast to chill. This Hotel is Perfect, simple and cool has all what you need. As long as you are not expecting Luxus of hotel rooms that attracts you more then the region and sighseen, you will be happy with your stay.

I wouldn't recommend it.
We booked this hotel because it was on the lake, had parking and climate controlled rooms. The parking was street parking that we were lucky to get but did not pertain specifically to the hotel. THERE IS NO AIR CONDITIONING. The Mosquitos unbearable so you couldn't leave a window open. Saw a huge cockroach crawl thru the room in the middle of the night. The staff was nice enough and they gave us a discount but I would never stay there again.

You get so much from this only 2 star establishment. Located across the road from the lake and in the Centro Storico AND across from the Imbarcadero or jetty to the islands. Staff were friendly; breakfast plentiful; interiors just like home ie non corporately sterile.

Tops for the money.
The view from our balcony was superb. The location is very convenient,right on the waterfront. the ferry is a short block, the airport bus a block longer. If you come by train, the walk is downhill, about 15 minutes. The town is charming, some very good restaurants. The Lake Magiore Express is worth it, although one could take the ferry round trip to Lucarno. Our room was definitely not the Hilton, more like the 1960's, but can't beat the view.

Great view, small but very clean room, just across from ferry terminal. Ferry trip to the islands is a definite must, even if the weather is a little damp. Also take the train over the mountains to Locarno and the ferry back. Hotel suggested 2 restaurants, both good, next door and La Botte (small, reserve). Little English, friendly and helpful.

The location was ideal as it was a five minute walk from my arrival point by ship. I was checked in quickly and given assistance to the room. The hotel was quiet and the bed was comfortable and the linen clean. However this hotel does show its wear, in the room, the staircase and the hallway. It did have a private balcony on a rundown courtyard. The tv was a nine inch tv and did have English channels. The WiFi did not work immediately and I needed to go down to the desk and they were able to get it working. Breakfast was very basic. This is definantly a lower cost hotel with some age issues.

Perfect location.
Our stay started with a half hour wait for someone to show up at the desk to check us in. We had a triple room, which was really a room big enough for a double, with a rollaway crammed in. Needless to say, it was a tight squeeze. However, the balcony and view were fantastic and almost made up for it. The breakfast is wonderful. The biggest problem we had was with mosquitoes. We visited in late April, before air conditioning season, so we left the window open at night and woke to discover we'd been eaten alive by mosquitoes.

Very warm and friendly staff
The hotel staff always greeted with a smile and I felt a genuine friendliness from them. The hotel and decor is dated but clean. They turned on the heaters at night in April, which is a plus. Breakfast was excellent- fresh pastries, cold ham and cheese, yogurt/ cereal, and you could smell the hot chocolate/ cuppacino in the morning.

I slept there for 2 days , wasnt too bad, but not something you will wish. for the price things could have been a little bit better such as a bit of confort, and a better bed. when I arrived, the room was smelling a dead rat, I had to find a scent candle to be able to sleep in. cleaness is ok, staffs are helpful, location is very good, The hotel need a DIY...

The best thing was the breakfast, which was complete and in a nice restaurant with view to the lake. Everything else corresponds to a modest place. It is clean and the staff is nice and cortegeous.

We'd read that the interior of the hotel was a little dated, this was true of the corridors and rooms. The cleanliness of the hotel could not be faulted though. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, even offering a bottle opener when they saw us walk in from the carrefour shop with a couple of bottles of beer!

Fantastic location, but a bit expensive for the facilities, which were a bit jaded. The half bath was a quaint whimsical touch, but not recommended for those built more for comfort than speed. Take bath oil to ensure ease of escape if you are of the chubby variety! Room at the back was very quiet;anyone with a lake view would have had a lot of traffic noise. Managed to park smack outside the hotel, which,though marked as a 1 hour slot, we were told was OK for our 1 night stay. The advertised free parking did not really exist, unless you got one of the 4 or 5 spaces on the road outside the hotel. No one ticketed us, so it worked. Ideal location for the ferry to the Islands, and for easy access to the town centre, bars and restaurants. Staff were very helpful.

Sempione was a very serviceable hotel. The Hotel and room itself were nothing too special, but the staff was friends and the location was great! We had a direct view of the lake for less than USD$100 per night. Per usual, the hotel had no A/C so it was very hot being Italy in July, although they did provide a fan that helped somewhat. Overall, it was a great value and a fine place to stay.

A very nice, comfortable accommodation
The Sempione is a comfortable, clean and well-located hotel in Stresa, but the staff is exceptional: they were uniformly helpful and responsive to our needs and they were kind and courteous in every way. I would be happy to return - and will next time I'm in Italy. Definitely good value.

Budget accomodation with basic continental breakfast but what a fabulous little hotel! All the staff were so helpful, we changed room (twice) as we wanted a lake view and also a terrace - nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff - will definately visit again!

Very handy base in Stresa
This is a very good though basic hotel very well located on the lake front in Stresa, only yeard from the boat and bus stops and ikm from the station. I particularly appreciated the lake front room with its little balcony so I could sit outside and watch the weather. Free internet use (of a laptop) was also very welcome. breakfasts were adequate if nothing special, and on the whole the value for money is excellent. This was my 2nd visit and I will go again.

Great view & centrally located.
If you get a room with a view, the view is worth everything else. We loved the beautiful view of the lake & mountains. The rooms are clean but the furniture is old and tattered. Our room had clean new carpet; I think it was indoor/outdoor carpet and was paper thin. The room was clean. The towels felt like sandpaper. The room is a 2 of 5 points. The view is a 5 of 5 points. The location is 5 of 5 points. The staff was nice and tried to be helpful.

Don't expect too much!
We selected this hotel for its location and booked 3 nights but only survived 2! Bed was awful walls paper thin. The lift was the best thing in the hotel as it saved you having to use the dodgy stairs. The décor was very old and tired. After the lift the next best thing was the breakfast which was OK and there was a lovely view of the lake although the weather was not typically Italian and a bit cloudy and wet during our stay. On the plus side you are close to the town which meant you had a great choice of restaurants and bars. Would recommend you seek out one of the two wine bars and sample the local Piedmont wine which we found very good.
