Overall I was happy with the hotel. Service can be better.

the views alone make this a stand-out eperiencePosted Aug 20, 2013
Pros: the views, the staff and the luxury
Cons: non-premium rooms do not share the knock-out views and are compact
Location: the best bit I saw on Lake Maggiore
This hotel has a view that I think is very, very hard to beat - across the fantastic Lake Maggiore with the wonderful islands and mountains as a backdrop. This is the view that you get when you take breakfast in the morning or relax by the pool, or in the evening as you take the set menu option. The staff are very friendly and helpful and overall I could not fault the service. The décor is elaborate and ornate - not original pieces, but put together with some flair and a bit of ostentation! Its an expensive, and there is a premium required to get a room with a lake view - we paid for the second class view towards the back of the hotel - still nice, but we were happy as we spent most of our leisure time away from the room. The room was compact, and if you did not know your partner well before, using the bathroom brings lots of enforced intimacy ;) We had a great break there (it was a treat by our standards) and having looked around Lake Maggiore I don't think I came across better views of hotels. The lack of 5 stars is perhaps tough - but I really do recommend it.

awesomePosted Jul 24, 2013
Amazing overall. Breakfast magnificent. Pool and SPA awesome - actually amazing. great staff too. Only a minor downfall: I tried 2 different rooms, which costed almost the same but had big differences. first one lake-view, and large. second garden view (terrible), very small, and sharing a door with another room, from which everything could be heard - not pleasant. As a note, the bar is outrageously expensive, 12 euro for a lemonade.

This is a winner.Posted Jul 14, 2013 on Hotels.com
Wonderful. Just finished 4 days there with my wife and our 4 year old. For a luxe hotel, the staff was wonderful and accommodating with our 4 y/o, much more so than at similar echelon hotels. The hotel is beautiful, the views across Maggiore spectacular, the rooms sumptuous. The bar is great, breakfast well worth the inclusive price. Most guests eat out of the hotel for dinner, but it's worth one meal at least in the higher end of the two restaurants - the decor itself and the service are well worth the price. The staff is very helpful with reservations and guidance. The fitness center has decent cardio equipment, minimal weights. We didn't use the spa services. 20 years of extensive international travel as context, I'd come back here in a heartbeat; in fact we may next year. 5 stars, absolutely.

It was one of the most beautiful hotels we ever stayed in. The service was impeccable. The dining was also wonderful.

Review of Villa Aminta, Stresa, ItalyPosted Jul 15, 2012
Pros: Views from the lakeside rooms, staff and the food
Cons: There is no courtesy car pickup between 2.35pm and 5pm so can be difficult to get back to the hotel as lack of local taxis.
Location: Superb location for visiting Stresa, Borromean islands, and less than an hour from Milan Malpensa airport
Excellent hotel, nothing too much trouble for the staff and they took the trouble to find out your name. Food was of a high quality, good choices and worth doing half board. Courtesy car available to take you too and pick up from Stresa - about 5 minutes away. Would definately book to go again

Not impressedPosted Aug 15, 2011
The language describing the rooms view I chose was misleading and the room itself was extremely small given the price. We ended up begrudgingly upgrading our room for a conciderable increase in price. I also thought the decor was a bit over the top. I will chose differently the next time I stay in the area.

Sophisticated but far not interested in technological comfort of the modern worldPosted Aug 4, 2010
This is a beautiful hotel with an amazing view of the Lake Maggiore. The decor has all the Italian almost 'over the top" feeling but still with class and elegance The service is impeccable and the staff is well trained. They need some surveillance system as several cars were smashed in their parking lot during the night. Their internet was out fro several days and nobody was capable to inform when would it be back. So if you are about to close an important deal during your vacation but still want to enjoy the luxury of the dolce vita, this might not be the right place to go!
