“excellent hotel except for the housekeeping issues”
The hotel itself was an excellent one. The room was actually gorgeous but one thing that really disappointed us was the lousy housekeeping that they have. Thank goodness that we have 2 beds in the room because one of the bed had an "old sweaty odor" on their linens/blankets, so we had to use the other bed. It felt like it was just tucked back in without changing them. So, the following day, we asked one of the hotel keepers that we saw to please change the linens. We went out and came back around lunch time and the room was still not cleaned. We left again and came back after 4pm and the room was till not made. So, I went down to the front desk to tell them and even them were surprised that the room was still not cleaned at that time. So, to FUTURE GUESTS OF THE HOTEL JUST MAKE SURE TO CHECK THE BEDDINGS BEFORE BEDTIME. The frustrating thing is that the hotel was rated 4-stars and I just think that, that was unacceptable. Other than that unfortunate incident, it was a very good stay and would still recommend the hotel and hopefully it won't happen during your stay.
“Wonderful Stay”
This is a great hotel from the lobby to the views to the fantastic bathrooms with hand held showers. It's location is prime, situated right at Main Strret and centrally located to everything in Lake Placid. I had a problem with the manner in which the maid cleaned the room on one of the days, after leaving a $5 tip. I reported the problem and I would assume that it was corrected. While I didn't use the amenities of the hotel, I thoroughly enjoyed the comforts of my room during my brief stay.
“Great Hotel”
Staff was outstanding and very friendly. Room was clean ready by 10:00 AM for check in. Location was perfect and the food at "Dancing Bear" was the best in town.
“Great stay!”
My husband and I have been coming to Lake Placid on a regular basis for the past 3 summers. We have both competed in Ironman Lake Placid and my son goes to the water ramps at the Olympic Training Center. We have stayed at numerous hotels and condos in Lake Placid. This was our first time staying at High Peaks and it was the best of all the places we have stayed out. The room was very comfortable. We loved the shower and the view of the lake from our small balcony. We went to the boat house and took out kyaks. The only disappointment was the restaurant. We heard good things about it but had a very mediocre dinner. Otherwise we loved the hotel!
“will go back”
Nice hotel, dancing bears resturant. was the best. food was out of this world
“Surprisingly good”
Booked a room here the day before our arrival late the week of Lake Placis's Ironman event. Since rooms were scarce and rates high during this week, we looked closely at reviews and chose High Peaks based on the positive ratings and value. We were pleased to be offered an upgrade on arrival to room 703 on the waterfront, with a pretty view of Mirror Lake. The king bedroom (with pullout couch) was not large but handsomely appointed, with a very comfortable bed, and an excellent bathroom with huge shower and large bathtub w/jacuzzi. We had a dip in the pool right in front of our room and took a paddle on the Lake at sunset in one of the boats provided free to guests. This section of the hotel is in walking distance of everything and parking was right above the room. We would definitely stay here again when visiting the area and appreciated the upgrade the busy but polite staff gave us.
“Nice, but....”
My room at High Peaks was extremely nice, but service at the hotel was a little lacking. Drinking glasses outside the room next door when I checked in on Sunday made their way on Monday to the window sill on the other side of the hall but didn't disappear until Tuesday afternoon. B'fast service in the restaurant on Monday was very slow; on Tuesday I walked out after waiting too long for coffee or a menu. I'd return, since pet-friendly options in Lake Placid are few, but the restaurant is off my list.
“Good deal”
Everything was fine- clean and nice view - good deal for the price
“good times, great price”
Stayed there for three days, two nights. The room was great with a beautiful view. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was in a great location
“Nice Stay”
I planned this weekend trip as a surpise for my boyfriend. I had never been to the Adirondack region, so I wanted a place where we could feel comfortable and someone could tell us where to go, if necessary. On their website, they have the option of contacting the concierge about travel trips for when you're in the area. I did it, "just to see" if they'd respond. I was quite impressed when they did. She responded to my questions and gave some tips for what to do. Once there, we didn't take advantage of the concierge services, as I had intended, but they seemed to be more than willing to answer questions. In addition to the good service, the rooms were very comfortable and the hotel location was great. Not "right on" the lake as advertised, but just across the street. Plus you can see it from most of the rooms.
