TERRIBLEPosted Jan 28, 2013
Location: nice location
most terrible experience i have EVER had with a hotel!. ..there was hair in our bed, and in the shower drain! the walls had marks all over the place. The bed spread looked like it was slept in for 2 years and never clean!. ..NEVER AGAIN!!!! The hotel needs massive amounts of updates, for the 10 minutes we were there i felt like Lurch was going to knock on our door.

love this hotel for the history.Posted Dec 11, 2012
This is an older historic hotel , very nice and that is part of the charm of the stay, this was my fourth stay , maybe it is just because I come from a small country town , but I fined it quiet nice.

If this hotel could talk ...Posted Sep 25, 2012
Pros: Free parking
Location: Right downtown, walkable to restaurants
This hotel is old. It has character, charm, but it has many miles on it. It needs a major infusion of cash. It's comfortable, clean, quaint, quiet, reasonably priced. I would stay there again.

Better than staying at a campsite.Posted Sep 4, 2012
The Good: The Hotel Saranac is an acceptable place to stay if you are looking for a no-frills place to sleep for a night or two. The bedsheets and pillows were old and sometimes torn, but seemed to be clean. The bathroom and the towels inside appeared to be hygienic. The hotel is quiet and is in a safe neighborhood. The TV is in working condition with 60 channels. A working mini-refrigerator is included in the room. The Bad and the Ugly: The entire hotel looks like it has not been given anything but the most basic maintenance for many years. The carpets in the hallways are old and littered with trash and the rooms desperately need a fresh paint job. The lobby looks like it is under construction (or demolition). The exterior of the building is drab and looks more like an urban housing project than a hotel. There is minimal space available in their parking lot. The bottom line: Stay at this hotel only if you cannot get a reservation at any of the other hotels/motels in the Lake Placid area, and can accept very unaesthetic accommodation.

There is hidden potential herePosted Sep 1, 2012
Pros: The piano on the second floor!
Cons: The lack of housekeeping
Location: GREAT location
This hotel has such great potential, but it seems to lack the input of funds to maintain its intended stature. Its a great price for the excellent location, and I personally had a good experience with the staff, who I found to be quite accommodating (all except for the housekeeping girl, who made it to our room once in the four day stay). If you're traveling to the Adirondacks for a long weekend and are short on funds but not energy and want to hit the high peaks, Hotel Saranac should be considered.

I thought it was a decent place for a decent pricePosted Aug 21, 2012
Pros: I love the old style detail of the building.
Cons: The restaurant was closed, but there was plenty within a blocks walk.
Location: It's old but if I had the money I would buy it and make it a showplace.
See it for what it is....an old historic hotel. Enjoy being in the center of town within walking distance to everything, and use your imagination about how it used to be. It was priced right, and had space when everything else was full or crazy expensive. I would go back again.

A Hotel to AvoidPosted Aug 14, 2012
Location: Saranac Lake is a very nice village with many excellent places to eat and shop.
Although our room had a comfortable mattress it appeared that the linens were not clean. They were stained, crumpled at the bottom of the bed and not tucked in. When we asked the chamber maid for replacement linens we were told that they were behind on the laundry. The following night the linens were still not replaced. The hotel's appearance is run down and depressing. The restuarant and lounge that Expedia reported to be present are not open. A large dumpster in the back of the hotel was overflowing with dozens of bags of garbage. The stairwells were dirty.

very disappointingPosted Aug 6, 2012
Pros: it had character, but was very shabby
Cons: the tv had sound and no picture
Location: location was good
this was probably once a beautiful hotel in it's day, but has been let go dreadfully. I would love to see it fixed up to it's prior condition, but doubt that it will ever happen.

It is better than I expected.Posted Jul 24, 2012
It is good for the price. Clean and tidy. I wish we could open the window instead of the air conditioning unit, which is really not needed in a place like Saranac Lake where even in July it can be 46 degrees at night.

Pros: how close it was to the lakes and mountains
Cons: the bathroom and the joint rooms
Location: beautiful town and area
very close to the lake which was nice, however the room is conjoint with another room with nothing but a thin door between (meaning you could hear your neighbors as well as they could hear you.) the shower looked like something out of a horror movie with some moldy tiles and an erie green tint and a flickering light to the whole room. the rest of the room was good though. not far from lake placid and whiteface would recommend it
